How does parent swap work

we are bringing an almost 3 yr old and a 3 month old.

Some rides the 3 yr d can go on but not the baby. Or I know at some point the 3 yr old will nap in the stroller and we would like to go on some adult rides.

So the question is do we need to all be on line to do parent swap or can one parent come out of the ride?

The baby I can carry on line but I can't carry the 3 year old and I know strollers aren't allowed.

We are definitely going to be doing this on our trip. Looks like you do have to stand in line and be directed to a 'waiting' area? Here is the info and link for a list of rides this is offered on
RIDER SWITCH / SINGLE RIDERS

You're at one of Disney's theme parks and you have someone with you who doesn't meet the height requirements of the attractions. Does this mean that you're doomed to riding Small World over and over and over....?

Luckily, at Disney World you and the others you're traveling with can "swap" your child and take turns enjoying the rides without having to get back on the line. (And no matter how cranky your kid is, this doesn't mean you get to trade for another one.)

First, check that it's offered at that particular theme park attraction. The Disney Cast Member will then instruct you to enter the queue. Once you're at the boarding area, let the Cast Member know that you want to "child swap." They'll show you where to wait while the rest of your party enjoys the ride. Once they get back, you hand the little guy over to them and you get your turn without having to get back on the line.

This works best with kids who are too young to be aware of what's going on. It may not be the best plan if you have a 3 year old and everyone else gets to ride. They know that they're missing something and could be quite vocal about it.

Two attractions offer another option, a separate Single Rider queue. This usually moves faster than the standby line and is a great alternative if you don't have a Fast Pass for that attraction and don't mind riding alone. This is offered at Test Track and Expedition Everest

I just thought of something....because our 20 month old will probably be napping while we do some adult rides also. We could still use the Disney experience ap and get a fastpass while DH rides using his fastpass then my turn. Because if she is asleep in her stroller then the ride swap option won't really work well since like you said they wont allow strollers in the line. Perhaps they will allow you to wait outside the fastpass area with the sleeping stroller toddler then swap? If you use fastpass there are usually (maybe not so much now with the magic bands-haven't experienced that yet) cm's stationed there anyway?

With baby swap at WDW, you go to the cm at the ride entrance with the baby. Tell them you want a baby swap pass. One parent goes on the ride while the other waits out of the line. The child that is too short is not allowed in line. After the first gets off, the second takes the pass and enters the fast pass line.

It is different at US/IOA. They have areas inside the line for the parents to wait.

Thanks! I thought I knew has it works just by reading it but then I thought of it how the OP mentioned with the toddler being asleep and then it got all confusing lol

Perfect! Thx

So does the second parent to ride start all the way at the end of the FP line? Couldn't that take like half an hour for the second parent to get to ride?

Yes the second person would start at the end of the fp line. I have never been there when fp lines were 30 minutes, but some recent reports have stated the fp lines are getting backed up. The idea is to save you from having to wait in the stand by line twice

If the fp line is thirty minutes the stand by line is probably 90+ minutes if not 2 hours. Although I have never personally witnessed a fp line that long unless here was a break down

We just did rider swap several times on our Christmas/New Year's trip. I think they're good for 3 people so my older two girls could ride with me and go again with DH if they wanted to. Whoever sat out would just wait outside the ride or walk around nearby.

I also agree that the fp lines are USUALLY not that long.
