How does one become a moderator?

Maryjo has most of it.
I'll describe how we selected our 3 recent additions to the Resorts board as an example of the process.
I posted a thread on the host board asking the moderators, especially of that board, for suggestions as to people that might make a good moderator. Some of the things we look for are:
A genuine interest in THAT board. We like to see people that have a deep interest in resorts for example rather than a general interest.
Someone who posts a lot on that board..but we also look at the type of posts, someone who posts helpful answers to people.
We ended up with a list of about 10 "possibles". Penny, Doc, Pete and myself than kicked it around in emails untill we had whittled it down to the 3 that we finally chose.
There is no application etc....
Neither the moderators nor the webmasters get paid. Some of the webmasters and moderators do work for Dreams or Werner Technologies but not all of them and one is not a requirement for the other.

that's neat. Probably a better way to do it than how I do on my messageboard....I chose a girl I met and now hang out at Universal with...and since she loves the GBs as much as I do...bam! she's a moderator...
