How does getting a discount work if you already have a reservation?

Let's say I'm booking through one of the various Disney-specific travel agents and already have a DVC villa reserved with cash. Then let's say one of these discounts is made available...if I'm eligible for the discount and rooms are available for the discount, how does rebooking work?

Do they cancel the existing reservation and rebook the new one? Is it possible they could cancel the existing and somehow miss out on the new one and then I'd be left reservationless?

My understanding is that they will just modify your existing reservation. I had just booked June 4-11, 2011 last week. After seeing the new offers, I changed my trip to May 27-June 4 to add free dining & save over $1100!!

Just be sure you get your new reservation booked to your satisfaction before you let them cancel you old ressie! Wouldn't want to wind up without one.
