Hi! If you have mtoion sickness issues, I think you will have trouble with Forbidden Journey. My mom has issues simulated rides and she regretted this one. If you decide not to go for it, you can still walk through the castle with your family and enjoy all the all the great theming in the line. Definitely worth a walk through!

Is Forbidden Journey similar?

No, not really. Imagine yourself at the end of a robotic arm being swept, albeit smoothly, in all directions. The robotic arm is itself also moving. And at three points in the ride, you will be in front of a screen that simulates flying on a broomstick (or magical bench, according to the story).

I agree with the PP that if you have trouble with Star Tours, you are likely to have issues with FJ.

i think it may really depend on you. did star tours plenty of times but one time it was a bit jerky and made my vertigo act up so i know how you feel. my family told me to sit out fj just in case but i gave it a go a few trips ago and went on multiple times. felt like a big swing/claw and did not have the vertigo act up. go figure.

Try taking some Bonine or less drowsy Dramamine. I can ride FJ if I am taking that. Without meds, FJ makes me slightly ill.

Star Tours does me in completely without meds. I won't even try it when I have been taking meds because it makes me so sick without.

I agree -- I don't think you can really compare the rides. Star tours is all on a TV screen. FJ is only partially on a screen, some of it is "real" stuff. In FJ you move a lot more, lots of swooping around.
I can see how either one could give motion sickness to people who are sensitive to it.

Even though Star Tours was rehabbed recently it still is a 1980's style simulator that although still fun is nowhere close to Forbidden Journey in terms of technology.Forbidden Journey is on a track with a robotic arm that tilts you every which way.It's also a combination with dark ride and video sections,I strongly prefer FJ.

My husband who never, ever gets sick on any ride, got very ill after riding FJ and in fact felt off the rest of the day. He can ride Star Tours over and over with no problem. He decided his system was just off the first time he rode FJ, so tried it again the next trip. I gave him a Meclizine the night before and another that morning to make sure he didn't get sick. He argued with me that he didn't need it and would be fine. Nope, still felt ill after getting off FJ. It wasn't as bad as it was the trip before, but still made him feel off. He sat outside while I rode it over and over using the single rider line. I love it and have ridden it over and over many times, jumping off and getting right back on through the single rider line.

He loves motion simulators, roller coasters, even the tea cups don't bother him, but for some reason FJ throws him for a loop. After taking Meclizine he will ride it once now, but that's it for the day. He's still not fond of it. Going through the fireplaces at the beginning of the ride and when the bench dips right after Hagrid asks if you've seen the dragon are the main parts that affect him.

I still think the problem is Star Tours is more accurately lined up between what's on screen and the motion of the vehicles. Due to the unique nature of FJ, it may be more difficult to achieve that seamless feeling of motion.

I love Star Tours and can ride it back to back multiple times. FJ is a more intense inner ear experience IMO and causes many people difficulty with multiple ridings, some even after one. I was shaky after the first ride, just because it's pretty intense. First getting onto the conveyer belt when you step off the ride is something that requires a little concentration IMO. Nonetheless, I was ready to go right back on it because it's awesome - and I'm a "ride chicken". Even my teenage daughter needed a rest for her inner ear after our second ride.

I find the opposite. I think it is because the entire thing isn't done with screens like Star Tours so it gives my brain a rest.

Star Tours doesn't bother any of us at all and I'm a big ride weenie. My husband rides everything with no problem even multiple times but FJ made him feel sick all day. Even Mission Space on the rough side doesn't bother him. I felt a bit sick for a few hours after FJ but rode again the next day (things you do for kids!) and I closed my eyes for most of the movie parts and only felt a tiny bit sick. People vomit in there pretty routinely and you hear of lots of sick all day reports which is rare even on the really rough coasters so do be cautious if you have a tendency to be motion sick.

Star Tours doesn't bother me a bit but there is one spot in FJ that does make me feel odd but I fight it and it's gone. I suspect that the only way to know for sure is to try it.

I rode FJ a few weeks ago. I have never been sick on a roller coaster or any other ride but I though FJ had broken that record but I was able to not. I think it has to be the screen as you are unable to focus on any of the screen that are not HD no matter who says differently they look like a cheap projector hooked up to a SD windows media player and a bad screen.

I never get motion sickness - spinning, upside down, no problem. But toward the end of FJ I was fighting to not get ill. I think it is the "pitching" motion that did me in...imagine you are sitting in a chair that suddenly pitches forward so you are looking at the floor, then pitches up so you are lying back looking at the ceiling. For me, it wasn't a balance or inner ear issue so much as just the effect of being tossed around. The whole family felt queasy for most of the day, and the day after didn't feel like doing any major rides. Having said that, the queue is brilliant and I would walk through it again any time. I just won't ever ride FJ again.

I have no issues with Star Tours (love it). I have rode FJ twice - the first time was a great experience - the second time, the robotic arm seemed "amped up" and it messed me up. In FJ's defence, I am not a thrill ride kinda guy.

Star Tours made me feel awful and I will never ride it again!

FJ I did fine on, I did take a Dramamine before riding it but don't think it had time to kick in, thought I would have to wait 30-45 minutes to ride but was only like 10 as I took it right before entering the queue. I will ride it this year without dramamine and hope for the best.
