How does everyone get so much time off?!

How do we do it? I am a SAHM and DH has a union job!:thumbsup2
 
I work for the largest employer in the U.S., I get over five weeks a year, and can carry them over to the next year, plus all the holidays.

at any given time I have about ten to twelve weeks of leave available, I usually take a week at christmas, a week at thanksgiving, and two weeks in september/october for WDW! (plus some three and for day weekends to DLR or Solvang, or Las Vegas, or....

well ya get the idea.

That's awesome that you can take weeks off just for WDW! Correct me if i'm wrong, but is Walmart the largest employer in the US? Or is it someone else?
 
I get 4 weeks of vacation per year. I can take all 4 weeks at once or spread it out if I like. No restrictions.

I was thinking the largest employer in the US is the US government by I may well be wrong. So who it it Grumpy Pirate?

I've had the time to go to disney and now with the awesome job bid I recently won that comes with a great pay increase, I hope to soon have the $ to go again too!

What exactly is a floating holiday?
 
I get 6 weeks (240 hours) of PTO (personal time off) + 9 company holidays.

I get 4 weeks vacation. I dont get paid overtime, but I do get time & a half for all my extra hours. So far I racked up (and still have not taken) 3 weeks.
Soooooooooo I have 7 weeks to take off BEFORE 12/31!:banana:

I'm not Grumpy Pirate, and that may very well be who he works for .. but, my DH works for the Federal Government and his time off package doesn't sound exactly like his. My DH has earned over the years a total of 240 use or lose hours a year, in addition to all the federal holidays. he also has sick leave and annual leave, but he never taps into that leave. I have no idea how many hours he has in each.
 
I just save up my time and use it when I want to or need to. I don't take days off that I don't need. And we are able to bank up our PTO.
 
My husband gets 4 weeks a year, and can take them whenever he wants. But he has to put in quite a few months in advance if he wants to take more then 3 weeks at once off.
 
Before I retired I got 6 weeks paid vacation each year, but it took a lot of years of service to get to that point. I also got paid polidays and sometimes my schedule allowed for 5 days off at a time. Tied with some vacation, it worked pretty well.

I'm retired now, but still work as a freelance musician with a number of bands so I actually have less time to get away. Last week we managed to stay at WDW for 3 nights and it was nice. Of course, we can day trip any day we have off.
 
DH gets 4 weeks (20 days) plus 1.25 or 1.5 (something like that) days per pay period (26) Add to that he has Sundays plus 1 other rotating day off per week and we can stretch that even further since it creates more long weekends than the average preson has.

Now if only we could afford to travel all that time! The longest trip we have taken is 12 days.

I've always wondered how people can take vacations to WDW for like two weeks. The most time i've ever been able to get off was four or maybe five days. How do you get all the time off if you're working??

Hubby's company is quite lovely to the employees; thank goodness they kept the unions away! No need for their presence at his company.

When we worked customer service there we got a decent number of sick days and vacation days. But then we were away for a couple years, and he's gone back into a higher, salaried position. He is approaching his one year anniversary back, and he got 2 weeks vacation this year, along with a good amount of sick time.

Once his year rolls over, he'll have 3, and I think in another year or 2 he'll go up to 4 weeks.

It's use it or lose it, and they ACTIVELY encourage their employees to USE their vacation time! They know that a relaxed employee is a healthier and happier employee, and they WANT their employees to take their time off, get refreshed and rejuvenated.

Of course, they can't take time off coming up to the holidays and then until late February or so to cover "returns season" (especially in normal customer service), but when they have to work extra (since he's salaried and either exempt or non-exempt (whichever is correct for the following) he does NOT make any overtime...last job he had he was salaried AND got overtime, which was incredible, but they were an awful employer)) the bosses reward them with snacks, fun, and joviality. They are all in it together, and his department seems really great at keeping people happy even while they are working their butts off!

Oh and my "job" is with my son, so I can take vacation any time I want. :)
