How does evening EMH work?

Just curious how they get non-resort guests out of the park. Is it similar to the parties where there are check points? Or are you just required to show proof of resort stay in order to get on rides, make purchases, etc? Thanks!

Not similar to parties. Guests can stay after closing, they just can't ride anything. Bands are scanned at the attractions to confirm that you have access to EMH.

The only thing non-resort guests aren't allowed to do is ride the rides. They scan your band to see what resort you are staying at, they do that at the entrance to the rides.

When your band is scanned at the ride entrance they can see that you are a resort guest

i LIKE THIS!
Prior to magic bands I had gone with my son and we stayed extra magic hours and I couldn't figure out how they knew who was a resort guest and who wasn't. The only thing I thought maybe was because he and I had one of those clear badge holders with our resort room key in it and thought maybe that was why were were not questioned.
That April vacation had many EMHs but since I now go in the Fall, seems the weeks I go has mostly morning hours instead of evening so I haven't really had to wonder.
I know our countdown is going to pick up but it feels like it's crawling to the end of October. However at the same time I keep reminding myself what a horrible winter we had last year and I'm not rushing winter to get here and see if we have another. sigh.

This is why the Friday Nights at EPCOT are so busy, no one leaves, they just keep drinking!

I've wondered about this too. I assume the following scenario is correct, let me know if it's not. If MK has EMH from 12-2 they would start scanning MB at 12. So if 7DMT has a 90 minute wait at 11:59 as a resort guest you're still not getting on till 1:30.

Correct!

Thats why the 7DMT queue is still long well into EMHs

Not exactly, they don't do FP's during EMH, so if it's posted a 90 minute wait, you'll likely be on by 12:40 or so, because you don't have FP riders taking up any of the capacity.

Before Magic Bands they did require you to show your resort room key when entering an attraction. They did not scan it or anything, just looked at it. The old KTTW cardshad your stay dates prominently displayed. If you were wearing them in a lanyard then they probably didn't ask.

This is making me wonder whether our plan of seeing Osborne lights during EMH is a bad one? The evening we'll be there has a pretty high predicted crowd level. I thought going during emh might offset that, but if people aren't made to leave, maybe not?

Is there a certain time you have to be in line for the park in order to get in for EMH? For example, if MK has EMH from 12am-2am, whats the latest you could be there to get in?
