How does DVC website pull points for reservations

So newbie here again. Just got my points on a resale contract. Contract came with some banked points. I made a reservation which was enough to use all the banked points and some points in this use year left over. When I made the reservation on the website would the automatically use the banked points first? This way if I still have points left they are bankable. I can’t see anywhere where it shows what points were used and want to make sure I can bank those remaining points if I choose to do so

Yes, that is the way things are done. When you make a reservation, on the last page, you will see a link for points summary and that will tell you.

Once you go back to the dashboard, it’s gone so I will always screenshot it.

Another way to check is go to manage points and view the points activity statement. You can find it there was well.

Thanks I did that and maybe because I just got my points it’s weird. It shows manual adjustment to allocation points and manual adjustment to banked points then the reservation and it shows how many points remaining however it doesn’t designate which points were used. I’m concerned that the remaining points are the ones that were already banked and I won’t be able to bank them if needed. Just FYI i have a February use year and maybe my new points haven’t loaded yet so only points that were technically available were the banked points which werent enough to cover the booked trip but it let me book (I’m assuming) because I had points coming

Go back to your dashboard. Choose “view or modify details“ for the reservation. You’re going to modify this reservation without changing anything.

When you get to the “modify your search” screen, your room and dates will already be loaded. Leave them alone and click on “check availability “.

On the “Modify your Resort” screen, choose your room. Even if it has been booked up otherwise, you will still see it as available because you’re holding these dates for that room already. Again, do not change anything! Just click “continue”.

The next page is “Your room is available!” This is where you can see how points are taken. Scroll down and you will see this:

Click on that link and you will get an animated pop up that shows the order in which the points were taken and how many were/will be used.

At this point, you can exit out of the reservation modification process. Your reservation is never affected but now you know how your points were used.

So when I made my reservation it asked where I wanted to points from and I just clicked ”do not borrow“ because I was afraid it would take from 2022. Now the reservation is for 68 points. I had 24 points from 2020 banked. so technically (I’m guessing) I only had 24 points but it took the reservation? Is that because the system knows I have points coming in February? It allows you to book even though I said don’t borrow? Now from what I can see it’s taking the balance of points from the 2021 use year.
so I’m afraid they are going to cancel this because I didn’t have my new 2021 points loaded yet. Are you allowed to book for the year before points load?

You will be fine.. Your points for the life of the contract are already "loaded". You can use your Feb 2021 points to book any reservation that begins no earlier than 02/01/2021 or ends no later than the night of 01/31/2022. You do not have to wait for your UY to begin in order to see them online or to use them. Banked points from a Feb 2020 UY should show up under your Feb 2021 UY.

If the reservation required more points than you had available, and you did not borrow points, you would not have been able to complete the reservation.

The system uses banked points before current points. So in your case it will have taken 24 banked points from 2020 + 44 current points from 2021.
