How does Disney get away with this (CM related)?

I know those of us that still have our jobs are lucky, but, Disney has scheduled DD to work 91 hours over the next 7 days. Excuse me??!! That's 7 13 hour days in a row! She's going to be so tired, I worry about her driving. Plus when is she supposed to eat or sleep? Sorry, but this totally rags me off. She's always scheduled for at least 60 hours (as are a lot of other CM's), but I think this is ridiculous! I am NOT feeling the Disney love right now

Does she get paid by the hour? Sounds like a good thing to me, if she is getting overtime pay, especially before the holidays....

Holiday week. The 2 weeks on Christmas will be just as bad. I worked nearly 17 hours strait one New Years Eve. That was a scheduled 13 hour day (12+lunch/dinner.)

I know you are worried but people do it all the time. She'll rest between shifts and will get breaks to eat.

That is a lot of work, and it sounds like she will have no social life for that week. But boy, she should have a very nice paycheck to take to the bank after a week of 91 hours and no time to spend it!

Yes, she does get paid by the hour so she'll have a decent check. She's done it before so I know she can do it, it's just that cumulatively working this many hours can't be good for you physically. Her job is in attractions and she's on her feet the whole time.

She has the option to give away a shift. There are a lot of people who want all the hours they can get. Hubby has given away 2 shifts next week with no problem.

The holidays are here!! Get ready for Christmas/NYE (unless she's a CP and her program will be over) because it will be like this for two weeks :).

She will love her paycheck!!

It sucks that she'l be there for so long, but the crazy busy days go by so fast!!

She should consider herself very lucky! I only got 28 hours next week, Thanksgiving week! Regularly I am getting about 16-20 hours a week. I am part time but still I definitely would like more hours.

Ah yes, worked MANY 12 hr. night shifts for 7 or more nights in a row, at a hospital. It does take a heavy toll on you physically and mentally. And by that 7th morning I was falling asleep driving home!
Thank God I don't have to work nights anymore.
She needs to take a shower/bath to relax when she gets home and then go straight to bed. Rest is the most important thing! Have to learn to pace yourself. But it can be done. I just worked 6 12 hr. shifts and boy am I exhausted!;)

I once did something like that for 10 days straight. They got around the days off by putting one on a Sunday and one on the next Saturday and yes it was during the very busy holiday season. I am not sure if this still holds true but anything over 8 hours a day is overtime there and anything over 40 hours a week. Heck anything over 80 hours may be double time. I don't know how they calculate all that. I am just remembering stuff from 7 years ago.

And I worked in a restaurant so I was on my feet they entire time. Though I found you do get used to it so they really weren't sore.

As long as they pay her time and a half if she is hourly--that is how they get away with it.

Paying OT is often cheaper than hiring a new FT or even a PT employee as there are extra costs associated with benefits and such.

She can always refuse and deal with the consequences that come with that.

Yes she will be exhausted and it would behoove her to spend her spare time sleeping and relaxing at home.

I used to work 15 hours a day for two weeks straight every year during the US Open. Your daughter should be fine as long as she does not go out after work. I am sure they give her breaks during the day and she will sleep when she gets home. There are 24 hours in a day so she will have 11 where she is not working. Plenty of time to eat and sleep.

She's an adult, I'm sure she can manage her time appropriately during the next 7 days. If not, she'll learn a valuable lesson about time management and work responsibilities. Would I want to do it, no but I'm not too young anymore. Like a PP said, she can always give away a shift or two.

And by that 7th morning I was falling asleep driving home!

I did that twice, fall asleep while driving. What people don't realize is when you do you don't know you did.

The first time I was driving home from the army in bad weather that caused me to be behind the wheel 15 hours after working all day. When I bounce off the snow bank on the interstate I then knew I fell asleep.

The second time I didn't sleep well the night before. We were driving to WDW I remember putting the coffee into the cup holder The next thing I know my wife is yelling at me. I was lucky I knew how to drive out the situation. I went into the median, took foot off gas didn't brake and drove a straight line until I slowed enough to get back on the road. The scariest part was the speed bump. I went over a mound of dirt went airbourne a little and came down with a bang. My all white jockeys had a brown spot on it when I took them off.

After that long winded tale be smart, if you are really tired after your shift take a nap in the car before you leave. An hour will make a difference.

I know when my DD was on the college program, she worked a lot of shifts like this. Your daughter is young and I am sure she will survive. As other people have mentioned, I am quite sure that she could give away some of the hours if she really wanted to.

I would think Disney "gets away with it" because they have CMs that are willing to do it. If you DD doesnt have a problem with it, then it is no big deal. It wont be forever and she will be happy with her paycheck when it is all over. I am sure if she doesnt want to do it, someone else will take it on a heartbeat!

I've done those kind of hours for my job. It's exhausting, but when the paycheck comes, it's OK. As long as she's getting paid OT for those hours, Disney can do that.
