How does BTMR compare to EE?

Our party of four ride BTMR several times on each trip. For this upcoming trip, we have fastpasses for Expedition Everest. Two of us have never ridden it and are a little afraid. How do the two compare? Is EE a lot scarier? Any big drops?

EE is more intense with one decent-sized drop and one tall lift-hill. BTMRR is much less, but rougher.

If you were to have coaster scales... and compare them to things at a Six Flags, I'd say BTMR is a 5, EE is a 6. Comparing to say a Goliath or X at Magic Mountain being a 9-10 type of thing.

IOW, it's a little higher and a little faster, but if your party regularly loves BTMR you'll probly like EE just as much. :)

Keep in mind that EE goes backwards at one point, can be a bit disorienting.

Expedition Everest has one big drop and at one point travels backwards going pretty fast. I am not a six flags fan and I love EE!

Take a virtual ride on youtube to see what you think.

Expedition Everest is def more intense, as others have put it. It does have the backwards component to it, which is also in the dark. I find that part of the ride to be the most disorienting/ intense. I LOVE EE however, I could ride it all day :cool1:. When I took my husband on it, who really does like coasters, he did NOT like it because he got disoriented and did not feel well:sad2:. I think it was because of the backwards in-the-dark part.
EE is MUCHHHH smoother than BTMR, which is rough in my opinion.

There is also the slight scary aspect of the YETI (even though he is a Disco-Yeti now and doesn't move)

On a scale like that, I'd put Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at a 2 or 3.

Your Expedition Everest rank is close to where I'd put it. Probably right around a 5 for me. It has that one backwards section and the one decent drop. Other than that, it is pretty tame and has no inversions. I enjoy the ride, especially the nice little terrain coaster sections. But I certainly wouldn't say it is intense compared to rides you find at thrill parks.

I remember the first time I rode EE I kept waiting for that drop freaking out, and waiting, and waiting. To me the drop was nothing and was a bit disappointed the first ride:) but I love the big coasters and RRR over at US is one of my favorites. After that first ride I was able to appreciate it more :)

It is a little more intest than BTMR but on a coaster scale I would say a 5 or 6. But it is a blast !

Two of my kids and I rode EE for the first time recently and loved it. It is more intense than BTMR and I was nervous about riding it, but it was fun. The drop is bigger than BTMR drops, but no huge - fun and not scary in my opinion. The backwards part is what really makes it more intense than BTMR. Also, the climb to the top of the mountain might be scary for someone who is afraid of heights. I had been on RnRC before EE, and I'd say EE is close in intensity, maybe a bit less since it is not as fast and does not go upside down.

I'm a bit of a weenie when it comes to roller coasters - for me, I'd give BTMR a 3 for intensity and EE a 10. I BTMR is one of my favorites. I can handle EE but can't really say I enjoy it.

For me the worst part of EE wasn't the drop, or the backwards - there is one very fast winding climb that bothers me the most. :)

I actually consider them similar in level. That drop on EE is a lot bigger than anything on BTMRR, but it is so fast and smooth that it really didn't bother me at all, and I'm not a big coaster guy. I will say the backwards bit did effect me somewhat. It didn't make me sick, but I did get a little dizzy.

I'll echo the others. Neither is vastly more intense than the other, but they really are not very similar either. BTMRR is a long, rough, and noisy ride, but it does not have any big drops or backwards parts. EE has the bigger climb, the disco yet, backwards in the dark, and a decent drop. I vastly prefer EE (I'm getting too old for the rough wooden coasters), but I'll always ride both. If you like riding BTMRR, I can't think of any reason not to at least try EE. Only someone who truly hates rollercoasters should have much to worry about with it.

I love BTMRR but hated EE. I kept waiting for the ride to get going and it never did. It felt really disjointed. Maybe I'll like it better the second time like the previous poster.

I may be in the minority, but I think they are comparable. EE does have a backwards section and one noteworthy drop that could be unnerving to some, but otherwise they're fairly similar.

A big difference which I didn't see mentioned is the seating.

BTMRR has bench seating and for me, part of the fun of the ride is sliding into my co-rider. Which also helps to give it a little bit of an out-of-control feel.

EE has single seats with lap bars that go down around your legs. So, while EE is faster than BTMRR, you're more secured in your seat since the single lap bar adjusts to you and not the bigger rider on the bench.

(If you wake up the next morning with an odd tender area in your leg, it could be from pressing it against the EE lap bar while riding.)

My two cents:

I think EE is quite a bit "scarier" than BTMR. I was pretty nervous to go on it (just because of how high/big it looks), so that may have something to do with it. BTMR is kind of like a fun, walk-in the park almost kiddie ride to me. EE is way more intense. You should ride it, though, at least once.

I asked my son as I haven't ridden either. (I'm a chicken lol) and he said EE is a little scarier because the roller coaster ends and you go backwards and the Yeti pops out. Lol his words! :). I think I may try BTTR this coming trip. It can't be too bad. I've tried Splash Mountain and love it. Hoping BTTR is not much more intense than splash.

I'm a roller coaster wimp and I love BTMRR and EE! EE is a lot faster, but it's smooth. Try it.

Huge fan of BTMRR, hate coasters in general. That being said, EE is definitely more intense (you feel the g-force in the turns, etc.) but not to the point where you will be regretting you rode it when you disembark. I'm glad we rode it, it is smooth and has some great views, but we aren't in love with it like we are BTMRR. We also tried RNR this last trip and it wasn't as bad as we thought it would be either. We are always so proud of ourselves when we conquer our fears! (Though I just can't seem to make myself ride TofT!):scared1:
