How does booking a MYW package with AAA work?

My family and I are getting ready to book a MYW package for a vacation in mid August 06. I just joined AAA today for any possible discounts and because we will be driving to WDW this time. I figured it can't hurt to have the extra driving benefits and trip assistance.

How do I get my AAA discount when booking through Disney?

Does there have be some kind of promotion to get a discount, like a code just for AAA members? Or do I tell the CRO that I'm a AAA member?

Should I book a Disney package directly through AAA and is it worth it?

If I book through AAA do you have to pay for the entire vacation at that time? I know you can make payments when you book through Disney by calling them direct and getting everything booked by CRO.

Last Question. Was joining AAA a good idea or did I just waste $64.00 dollars by joining? Any help or Ideas would be great.

I will be joining AAA friday for a package. I'm going in jul15-22 and my agent has giving me a price of ~3300 for dh33 me33 dd10 and ds6 and wilderness lodge woods view 4 day tix and dining plan. When i put my deposit down which is $200.00 and we can make payments until it is time to pay it off.So you can make payments. I want the safety of having a AAA card for driving purposes. I only have great things to say about AAA. I use them all the time for guidemaps, maps, and car services like tows (had a lemon VW). You can get a AAA room discount when you book through Disney, but you cannot get a discounted package through Disney. You have to book your package through AAA, making a $200 (?) deposit at the time you book. The remainder of your balance is due 45 days before your trip. I don't think the $$ is wasted. You can get discounts at random places just for having AAA. I saved over $100 on my eyeglasses because I am a member. Good luck planning your trip. aw:

AAA also has some extras in January for their packages I believe. If you need the name of a good AAA agent PM me and I'll give you her info. All AAA agents are not equal when it comes to Disney knowledge. Mine has been wonderful about answering questions, finding deals, etc. I believe your membership cost will be more than overcome with the AAA rates, discount tickets, and services. Good luck!

I was at AAA this morning. They are very helpful. I went in with a lot of questions regarding the information that I read on line. Remember with AAA no discounts on meal option. I am also going in Aug. on a 6 day 7 night magic your way with meal. 2 Adults and 2 kids at WL resort. There was almost $300.00 in saving through AAA. And they will trip ticket the best routes to Orlando for you. Hope this helps

If you book a room yourself with Disney, you can get a AAA discount. You let them know you're a member and you show your membership card upon check-in to get the discount off rack-rate. In doing this however, you can not get MYW dining or tickets (the package). In order to get the package, you must book through a AAA agent. Your real discount isn't on tickets or the meal plan -- basically, there isn't a discount there, but the 15% or so off the room is a great guaranteed discount. AAA does add the preferred parking, a special story-time pass, etc. plus all the others you come to expect from AAA -- roadside service, maps, triptiks, other discounts throughout the year, etc.

Edited to add: Joining AAA is never a bad thing. If you need just one towing, if you ever run out of gas, or if you're stuck with a flat tire in the pouring rain you'll know it was money well spent. Additionally, don't be afraid to ask at any hotel for a AAA discount, go to your local agency for maps and triptiks, etc.

I went today and I got a price for 7 nights Sat to Sat at the standard view room at the WL with the 6 day magic your way with park hopper option. Also the dining option for 2 adults and 2 children under 10. Total was 2976.98! To add the insurance 3096.88. TO add just water parks to it 3151.70! And to add both insurance and water parks 3271.60

I have considered booking it all seperately to save money but I am not sure I will in the long run because I really want the dining option I think that will be very beneficial to my family! I had checked with 5 or 6 travel agencies on line that mousesavers had suggested and a few others. No one has beat the AAA quote that I got. When pricing this myself on the disney site it saves me almost 300! I am going to get my airline tickets on my own it is cheapier.

If anyon knows anyway to get this cheapier or if I am better off booking myself seperatley please let me know. Thanks and I hope that this helps.

I am going to get my airline tickets on my own it is cheapier.

I did the same, not because it was cheaper but because I'm obsessive about picking my own seats on an aircraft. Since I have been planning on using Magical Express I then called Disney to notify them of of my flights numbers and times so we could be properly accounted for. Unfortunately, because an agent booked my package, I was unable to simply add that information. I wound up having to contact the agent -- who in turn had to forward the information to Disney. I find it a highly inefficient way to update a simple matter, but I am happy to report my AAA agent was as cheerful as ever and didn't mind a bit.

If you want the dining plan AND the room discount, AAA is the way to go. You can't get both through disney as far as I know. You are driving as well so If you are planning on staying overnight somewhere along the way you can get a room discount for that as well. I have used my AAA far more than I ever expected too for other things besides the vacation. There are many discounts at retail stores, movie theaters, etc. We also used the discount card for The World of Disney store in Downtown Disney. I think it was worth it completely, especially where I wanted the dining and the room discount as well.

We'll be at the WL 8/10 through 8/20. If you hear somone loudly exclaim, "Evan Matthew!" to a jazzed 4 year old, that'll be us!

For us, 11 days / 10 nights. Standard view, 10 day hoppers with waterparks, insurance, etc $3779.

Do you fell it is worth getting the water parks added for your kids age? Mine are 6 & 7 and some say that they don't let the kids on a lot of the stuff except the kiddie areas. Thanks

Since we're there for 11 days, we want the WP option to break things up. With 10 days in the major parks, we can stretch the vacation a day or so with a WP visit. Would my kid be happy with just the WL hotel pool? Well, yes and no. He'd love the slide without a doubt -- but ever since he saw the snorkeling at Shark Reef portion on the planning DVD, that's been a big "must do." I will say, my child has been snorkeling in the bathtub (flippers and all) since age two so he's probably a bit of an oddity. As far as CM's not letting kids on the slides, as long as they measure up and are behaving properly there's no reason they can't go. I've pasted the height requirements for each park below:

Blizzard Beach
Slush Gusher - at least 48 inches tall
Summit Plummet - at least 48 inches tall
Downhill Double Dipper - at least 48 inches tall
T-Bar (in Ski Patrol Training Camp) - must be under 5 ' tall to ride
Tike's Peak (Children's area) - must be under 48" tall
The Chair Lift - at least 32 inches tall (No infants or lap riding)
Cross Country Creek - adult supervision is required
Rock Climbing on Mt. Gushmore - for ages 9 and older (Additional fees required)

Expectant mothers and those with neck or back problems are strongly discouraged from experiencing any water slide attraction.

TYPHOON LAGOON
Humunga Kowabunga - at least 48 inches tall
Keel Haul Falls - at least 48 inches tall
Mayday Falls - at least 48 inches tall
Storm Slides - at least 48 inches tall
Bay Slide - must be under 5' tall to ride
Castaway Creek - adult supervision is required
Ketchakiddee Creek - must be under 48" tall to experience (especially for children ages 2-5 and their parents)
