It's my first time renting with Avis, and I signed up for their Preferred membership.

How does it work when I pick up my car? Do I have to go to the counter first, or is there a kiosk I can use? Does it make any difference that my reservation is through Priceline?

TIA for your tips!

Avis Prefered works so well, skip the counter and go right out to the rental car garage, they are located on the 2nd level and it is very well signed. They are in process of updating the service, the way it worked when I was there in March is new. There is a large electronic board with names and parking spot numbers on it. Your name will be posted there if you have given your flight information, if not there is a prefered booth right there and they can help.
As I said the name on the board is new, and really fantastic, you go to the spot, keys are in the car and off you go. At the exit to the garage they just ask for the tag that was in the car and your ID.........and off you go. Have a great trip : )

I just received my Preferred card in the mail the other day. We land in Orlando this Saturday and I figure I won't be able to use the Preferred Service since I made the reservation through Priceline. Is this assumption correct?

I would phone Avis with the res # and see if you can add your avis number to the rental.........saves a ton of time at the airport. Just not sure how that would work with the booking done with an outside agency?? Never hurts to phone and ask.

The first time you would use your Avis Preferred card you need to stop by their counter in the terminal, however the next time you rent from them you can go right to the rental car garage.

Thanks for your tips, and cheers to my Canadian friends! I've got relatives in Kitchener & Toronto!

We are renting from Avis in August and my wife is an Avis preferred member. She used to rent quite a bit for work but here locally they don't have a separate preferred section.

How does the paperwork get done for preferred customers if you just pick up the car? When we did the on-line rental at Avis site the confirmation page says approximate total and estimated total with a disclaimer that some modifications may change this rate. Is this something we should be concerned about or is it just standard boilerplate?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I've rented with Avis several times in the past. Airports are setup one of two ways. Either you have to go to the kiosk to pickup your keys and paperwork or they have a board with your assigned car space #. In that case, your paperwork is already in the car and you checkout at a booth on the way out.
