I am planning a Feb 08 trip- Had originally planned to stay at Poly the whole time- but am now thinking since i want to go to the AK our arrival day to catch the parade that maybe we should stay at AKL - the kids would love to see the animals and then we could try Boma which we normally wouldnt do- but how does a split stay work for park passes- It is so cheap to add a
6th day to a 5 day pass- but if i had to split it up could i still do a 6 day pass? or would i have to do a 5 and a one?

Thanks

A split stay is much more expensive if you're on a package, and yes, it's because of the passes. If you book two separate packages for 5 days each, it's a lot more $$ than booking one package for 10 days. The only time I've done a split stay is while I had an AP. The only other option that you have is to either not book a package (but then you can't get the dining plan), and buy MYW passes for the number of days that you'll need them for, or you could book a package for the first part of your trip and do a room-only reservation for the second part of your trip. Again, when booking the first part of your trip, you'd just have to add on days to your passes.

We have split our stays several times. You can purchase your park passes with your original check in resort. When you check in to your "new" resort, the CM can simply transfer your park passes to your new Key to the World. We have done this several times.

Now if you planning to do the dining plan, that would be different, but for passes only, they easily transfer to your next resort! We love the Poly and AKL.

We were planning on the dining plan- and i wanted to do a six day park hopper- so it seems like maybe the akl wont work- unless someone can find me a loop hole!

It would be better if you did akl on you last day....

Your park passes would still be good....

You would get room only at akl on your last day....

Your DDP is good til midnight on checkout day....
so if you have some left....you could use it at akl till midnight....

If not....still only leaves 1 day without DDP...

You could checkout of resort 1....
go to animal kingdom....bell services will transfer luggage....

end of day....go to AKL....check in.....get your room...
Enjoy dinner at Boma..

Thnks- this would have been perfect
but wont work because my parents are coming up for the last three days of our stay for the Poly- they cant really switch resorts and my mom doesnt like AKL- so we need to get that in before they get there- I wish we could do it the way you suggested then everything would work

OK here is another idea, since adding AKL at the end won't work. There is so much to see and do at AKL it would be worth booking a room only ressie for that first night, paying OOP for meals that day - just hanging around tour the resort, watch the animals and enjoy the pool. That way you only need to purchase the package with tickets and dining for the Poly starting your second day.
Eating at Boma is yummy, it isn't that costly and The Mara (the CS place at AKL) has very good, reasonably priced food too, so it's not like you would break the bank to pay OOP for the meals for that one day.
For us DDP usually provides too much food, so I would only want it for a few days anyway if it were me. (We have AP's and use the DDE so get a discount and can order just exactly what we want to eat - like that flexibility). With DDP my own experience is that the vacation becomes too food oriented. Ah, but I digress.
AKL is definitely a gorgeous resort and there is no shortage of things to do for a day without going to the parks. Try to squeeze it in if you can - also it's worth the splurge for the savannah room if your budget can handle it.
