Hello and thank you for the advice in advance . I was wondering how a points transfer works. Is it done through DVC member services ? How much is usually charged per point ? Is better than just renting them ?

Point transfers are done through MS. The points retain their home resort status and UY. Transferred points can be banked but banked points can not be transferred. You can't see transferred points online and MS sometimes has trouble using them. Nothing is charged per point because it's against the rules to transfer points for money.

Thanks Bill :) How ae people transferring them on the boards and asking for money ? Would renting them be the better options ? I do not want any issues with mouse service.

Someone can ask for anything, just don't say anything to MS about monies while talking with them about the points.

I think DVC just doesn't want to be bothered with disputes between members if something goes awry with a transfer? I don't see why they care if money changes hands....they don't care if you rent for non-commercial purposes. Does anyone know any other basis for the 'no compensation' rule for transfers?

I'm sure that they have their reasons. I find it funny that they can transfer points for $15 each and that's okay.

I imagine it is because the transfer process is an irreversible transaction and if Disney goofs it up on their end, they don't want to be on the hook to compensate anyone. Therefore, they say that the the points have no monetary value and transferring them for compensation is prohibited. They aren't stupid....they know that people are not transferring hundreds of points to someone else's account out of the goodness of their heart:rolleyes1. It's kind of a "don't ask, don't tell" transaction.

I just did a transfer with another member today so I could make a Spring Break reservation at a resort I don't own. The owner transferred the points into my account. I can't see them online, but MS can see them. I made the reservation with no problems. I find this preferable to renting because I control the reservation and can make changes or cancel if needed.
