How does 180 day + 10 work?

I've always made our room reservation just a few months out from our trip once discounts come out. We are going to WDW for the PHM in February. It's a HS graduation gift for our DD who will run her first 1/2 marathon that weekend. I really want to get one or two reservations at her top choice restaurants(for sure BOG and maybe Akerhus). I hope I'm not just dreaming of the BOG one...we went there in March and she really liked it!

Am I assuming correctly that this is a big reason why people make their room reservations so early before discounts come out? If I make a room reservation now and a discount comes out, will they give me the discount or will there be fees to switch, negating any discount? I don't want to mess up any room discount we could get just so we can have dining reservations. It's a "gift trip" but there is still a budget!

If I do make a room reservation now, would that qualify us to make dining reservations at 180 days, plus 10 days?

Or, would it just be 180 days, plus 3 days since we'll probably be staying for 3 nights?

How do you know when the earliest possible time is that you can make your dining reservations? Can you make them on-line on that date or is it better to call?

Any tips for increasing our chances of getting the BOG?

Thank you!

If you are staying on site, you can make reservations at the 180 day mark, for the next 10 days.

If you have a reservation and want to change to a promo later, IME, they cancel the reservation and rebook. Some have said that they haven't had to do that.

No idea on BOG, it wasn't there last time we went.
