How Do You Treat Your Dvc Property?

We too have a tendency to treat it better than home. But we feel it is a part of our ownership duties. Now with this in mind, we are on vacation, so everything is not neat and tidy. We do make the beds every day, but not as good as mousekeeping would. If I see a issue with a door lock being messed up or something that a carpenter can usually fix, I fix it. Thats just me!

One time, during our 1st stay at VWL, the bathroom door lock wouldnt engage into the keeper. So I called maint. The guy came, worked a little for 20 mins or so, then told me he would have to order a new lock. The door was a little warped and the keeper just needed readjusting to allow the door to stay locked. So I fixed it. Door locked, no new lock needed. Might have saved a whole penny on dues

I have to add my voice. Better than home!! I know that if I trash the place eventually I have to pay to fix it. It all trickles down to us, the owners.

As well as I treat my own home. We do not wear shoes at home, we do not eat out of the kitchen/dining room at home, etc. I expect the same from my children. We are not rough on things, but if something breaks we never hide it at home and we certainly would not hide it at DVC. I think there is a difference between normal wear and tear and abuse. I have been in villas where the item is just well worn as well as in villas that have been abused--chunks out of the tables/large scratches, etc. Well worn does not bother me; broken and misused bothers me.

But what we saw just floored me. ....

I bet the mousekeeper was floored too. I picture her deciding to put the room off and clean the others so they could be ready ASAP -- with plans to return. But the desk gave you the room before she could get back. Miscommunication I wonder?

For me the greatest pleasure of WDW is the neatness of the place and the order. I enjoy that more than the rides and entertainment BY FAR. When I'm there I like the room to be tidy and clean. It doesn't have to be perfect, but close to it is nice. (I leave the kids' room a mess. Just close the door, but they know better than to do anything damaging to the place.)

I like things to be neat and organized when I get home - here or on vacation. So we like to unpack as soon as we arrive - that makes us feel settled - and then before we head off to the parks in the morning we quickly make the bed, tidy up and take out the trash. (Might take a whole 15-20 minutes.) I'd like to say I do that for the sake of all of you, but the fact is that I just like walking into a clean place at night. We use coasters, and no, we don't waste our precious time at WDW carving our initials into the furniture, crayoning murals on the wall, or sledgehammering holes in the walls. We'd rather be on Big Thunder Mountain! :yay:

I say we keep the room neater than home. Now for those of you who use coasters. I stayed one night in a VWL studio and there weren't any coasters. I asked mousekeeping and the woman checked two carts for coasters, couldn't find any! She didn't usually work the DVC side and said the carts didn't have them in the usual place. Where do you have coasters? (I did manage to fold a paper towel so I could put my mug down!).

Personally, I used the term "coaster" loosely. I can't really remember the coasters specifically - I just know that if one is available we use it, and if not, we use a magazine or whatever.

On eBay...seriously. Someone is actually taking the DVC coasters out of the units and selling them on eBay.

ok, so how many of you have checked into a dirty room? I know we did at BCV back in January. The studio wasn't totaly filthy, but there were m&m's and some crushed pretzel bits. it took about a minute to clean up

I think all of us on this board do take extra care of our DVC. We spend every day with each other, and have a certain bond and friendship. I think that helps us take care of the place. I always wonder if one of you is going to be in the room after me. I would never want something I did (or failed to do) ruin a DVC moment for your family.

So I always take out trash and pile towels in the tub and pull the sheets off and pile them on the beds. (don't want mousekeeping to just remake the bed) and we vacum the cheerios and goldfish and cookies that seem to get everywhere when you have little ones.

I did this anyway before I found my way to the DIS, but it helps to think that someone I "know" might be next.

I saw that listing, too! Amazing some of the things from dvc that are available on ebay.

As for the question, we've only stayed in a studio one night so far since we became members. I'd say we treat it the same as at home. I don't take my shoes off at home though so I don't take my shoes off at Disney.
