My plan is to train like I am running a marathon and do back to back long runs, perhaps every other weekend up to the taper. Is this about right or not. What has worked for some of the pros in here. Thanks
Scott

scott - i'm going to move this for you to the events board where you will get LOTS of replies ::yes:: Good luck!!

This past year, every other week I would move one of my short runs to Friday and do half the distance I was planning for on the long run. I think I started this around the middle of September to the beginning of October. It got where the back to back runs were getting easier but it was hard to get up early two days in a row to do the runs.

I agree with Bill. One of the hardest parts was setting aside large enough chunks of time on the weekends to do two fairly long runs. If you can get past that, your plan sounds like it will work.

Good luck training!

The common denominator of success that I have heard is LOTS of cross training.

So if finances allow I may reactivate my gym membership so that I can go heavy on the cross training especially with lap swims and spin classes.

In the mean time I will make lots of use of the exercise bike and maybe do a once per month back to back long day just to get a feel for it.

Thanks Guys. Thankfully, time is on my side. I work an 8 day work week with 5 days on and 3 off. This gives my two days for the runs and one to recover before it is back to work. Good then. Seems like it will work.
Thanks again

Scott -

I too have been wondering how to train for Goofy.
I sent out a plea on the weekly thread and the answers from previous participants were pretty consistant. Regardless of which training program they used, they did back to back LRs.

Cross training also played a huge part in the training plans. Like Lisaloves Pooh, I am hoping to add some spin classes and swimming into my routine. I think anything that minimizes impact would work though.

Also, I have started a Yoga class once a week to help with flexibility.

Good Luck!
Cecilia
