According to our server the last time we at at The Yachtsman Steakhouse it is true! :confused3 BTW, I enjoyed your wedding pictures from the Yacht Club Gazebo. I was married there as well!!

Charged to my room - returned home a few days ago and my AMEX bill is already paid. So I was afforded the protection of not having to carry cash - no tips were stolen from the table by the wrong server/buser/patron - I earned valuable rewards that are going towards my Myrtle Beach get away in May..

The one that knows someone who's card was accidently charged twice.. you stated that was in jan - RIGHT when they changed systems, correct? I also suspect that honest human mistake was very easily fixed/reversed? I am personally more concerned with losing/droping cash or a gift card them I am about the 1 in 1000 human mistake that can be fixed..

Cash in the folder the server gives us with a room card for the DDP. I would never leave it on the table, nor will we EVER charge to the room. We will only do traveler checks and cash. :goodvibes

I seldom carry cash through the parks with me so I would just charge it to my room.

We do not carry much cash; if you loose it you're out. We charge everything to the room--like those rewards we get by using a credit card. We actually MAKE money on our dividend card.

On a side note, I worked in the hospitability industry for decades, many of them waiting tables. While I certainly appreciated anything left for me, I would not be as happy with any type of gift card or pre-paid credit card. Try paying your rent/mortgage with those. Or your preschool/Day care bill. Or your kids’ lunches or scholastic book orders, etc. at school. Imagine having to track each card and carrying them all with you to go grocery shopping, pay your college tuition, etc. Plus they expire so you have to spend them quickly and can’t save up for things (a car, down payment on a house). Doesn't quite work. For many servers this isn't a way to pick up "extra" money for current incidentals, but their main source of income. Most servers would much rather be able to deposit into their bank account. You’d be better off getting yourself a prepaid credit card/Disney gift card and using that to tip. Plus there would be less to keep track of.

I'd like the ease of paying the tip by having it charged to my room, but we have had our meals charged to the room on three different dinners while on DDP. :sad2:

This was after telling the CM we were on DDP at the beginning of the meal.

Sure they can fix it, but it's just not worth the hassle. We decline the ability to charge to the room and it prevents this from happening.

Now with the less-attractive, less convenient dining plan, we'll have to go to an ATM before our trip to get a supply of tip money.

Charge to the room. We did this last April & it was great!! Didn't have to worry about carrying cash. Will do this again in May.:thumbsup2

:thumbsup2

We just returned and we payed cash for all tips. We found it much easier on us and the wait staff. We had not one staff mention about writing the tip in. We all the time got the bill and we wrote cash in the area where it said tip and then we gave them the DDP card. When they returned they asked me to sign the one copy and leave it and the other copy was mine. NO problems, very easier then I thought going down. I still perfer the tip being included thought.

Same here! On two different trips we've had problems with the meal or part of the meal being charged back to the room. We use the DDE card for any extras (i.e. alcohol) along with the DDP. Whatever we use the DDE card, we charged using the room key. On two different trips we've had servers mess up and charge our entire meal to the room, instead of using the DDP. Now when we check in, we just allow charging privileges on one room key and then make sure we never use that key at a restaurant. However, I also travel solo to WDW a couple of times a year, so can't do that on those trips. On my solo trips I'll carry an envelope each day with enough cash in it to cover my tips and make sure the servers never get their hands on my room key.

While those cards are definitely inconvienent, they aren't the end of the world. The end of the world is when you get one of those pamphlets with your 8% tip "God only gets 10%, so you obviously won't get that much." Or that could just be a Bible belt thing..probably not so much at Disneyworld.. :confused3 BTW, I don't know how Disney systems work, but couldn't the server just take that card and apply it to the next cash paying table? We used to do that all the time. Especially for the people who decide, AFTER they paid.."OH, I forgot this coupon/gift certficate/etc."

BTW, after working in the restaurant business for over 5 years--- I NEVER EVER EVER pay with a credit card or charge to my room. ALWAYS cash. I don't know if Disney does background checks..maybe they do... but I have seen it TOO many times where a server "accidently" hits the wrong button in the computer and gives themself a 25% tip instead of 15% tip.. hoping no one would notice.. not many people check their bills THAT closely. You see $58 instead of $53, your first thought would be to think you are wrong, right? OR, stealing the numbers outright. No way. :scared1:

That is the card that we use for room charging. I check everything. Mistakes happen. If you catch them right away, you can avoid any problems. Hey, I check my credit card charges online every day! And I never find any problems.

That's what I thought most people were doing. I can't imagine leaving a gift card as a tip. I just never thought of doing it before.

Has anyone ever used a prepaid credit card to use to charge to the room? I'm planning on tring the DDP in Oct and I do not want to use my credit card. I to have worked in the service industry and there is to much fraud that goes on.
