how do you tell the difference between a flu and cold?

I would like to know since i'm really sick. I have sore throat, vomiting, shakes, overall body pain, and a possible fever (won't know until my mom wakes up) Help would be nice...I want to be able to get back up and do stuff today

Possible flu. Usually when I get a cold, I get some of those symptoms but never really vomiting. Anyway, hope you feel better soon.

I would go to the first doc that would see me this morning and get Tamiflu. That stuff really helps.

Once your mom wakes up, if you're still exhibiting those symptoms and have a fever, call your doctor in advance. If you do have any form of the Flu I doubt he or she wants you sitting in a waiting room potentially giving it to anybody else there.

Not to scare you, but it does sound like the flu. A cold, usually, has symptoms involving your head; congestion, runny nose, etc. I agree with Patti; call the doctor in advance if you have a fever.

Why would your mom think you are faking it? If you have all of those symptoms it should be clear you're sick.

Don't freak out about Swine Flu. Every sign of a flu anyone sees right now makes them think it's Swine Flu. Most likely, it's your normal flu or virus. But definitely go to your doctor.
And your mom shouldn't think you're faking... throwing up? I hope you feel better!

It sounds like you have the flu to me. Colds don't usually make you vomit. Go to the doctor and they'll give you some Tami-Flu. That stuff helps A LOT.

moms still saying no doctor. I had a fever of 101.9 but it is back to normalish.my mom doesn't think anything is wrong but if I'm still sick tommorow I will get myself to a doctor

A cold usually results in a low grade fever (< 101F), and a sore throat with stuffy nose. Sometimes associated with a cough. The fever doesn't last long.

With the flu (or influenza) you have a high fever, malaise/lethargy, aches and pains, and you generally feel like total crap.

It sounds like you have the flu. Hang in there and feel better! I was in your shoes not too long ago.
