How do you stop your backpack getting wet on rides like splash and kali rapids? thanks for any ideas :confused3

On the Kali river ride there is a section in the middle to put bags and shoes to keep them dry, but you could always use a plastic bag if you have anything like cameras inside just to be safe. We didn't have a problem on any other rides though!

It's snowing here, too! Just wanted to mention that you MUST wear shoes on Kali, now. They don't let you go barefoot, so think about bringing a pair of flip flops in your backpack. Put your sneakers in the backpack and squish the backpack in the holder in the middle, or in the plastic bag. Nothing worse than wet sneakers. We all wear Teva sandals now, just for this reason.

Before we left home, I sprayed our backpack and camera bag with Scotch Guard, and it worked great.

Especially on Splash Mountain, when we were stopped right next to that little waterfall at the end. We were drenched, but the water just rolled right off the bags...my DS said "Mom, you should have sprayed US with that stuff!"

I'm not sure about Kali, for we didn't go on that one, but on Splash Mountain, we wore our ponchos, so we just put our packs on our laps under the poncho. Worked great!

Love that Scotch-Guard idea!

That center holder on Kali isn't water-proof - If you have stuff that can't get wet, bring a bag for it (like cameras etc..) I bring a gallon size ziploc for that stuff.

For even the slighest water rides be very very careful with your cell phones! I put mine deep in my pocket and it got wet on a river rapids ride at dorney park. :sad2: Needless to say i keep a plastic ziplock bag in my handbag now just in case i need if (rain, amusement parks, the beach, etc...). I'd recommend finding a locker when you go on water rides, just to be safe. At dorney there weren't any lockers so i had no choice but to bring it on, or risk having it stolen in a little cubby hole near the ride's entrance.

I always bring my ponch and although I rarely wear it on a "wet" ride (getting wet is all part of the experience), I use it to wrap around my backpack. That was it never gets wet-a wet backpack is NOT part of the experience!

We travel with a big trash bag in our backpack or fanny pack, whichever we are using. Then, when we go on one of the 'wet' rides, we just pull out the trash bag and put our bags in it. We have never gotten anything wet doing it this way.

Hi!

All I can say is...garbage bags! I use them for everything at the parks! They take up almost no room and have a multitude of uses:

--good for sitting on wet ground while waiting for parade/fireworks
--wrap backpacks in them for wet rides
--wrap feet in them for wet rides (a lifesaver on Kali)
--wet bathingsuit holders
--emergency ponchos for those Florida downpours
--extra souvenir holders
--Mission Space sick bags :rotfl:
--great for separating laundry in the luggage at the end of the trip!

Hope that helps! :wave2:

I'm a tried-and-true Ziploc baggie person! I put all my stuff in small (like quart or snack size) baggies and then put them in the back pack. Works like a charm. I don't carry a "big" backpack either. Did that for ages. I've downsized and things are much more enjoyable! Camera, park tix, $, cc/dc--everything goes in a baggie and I don't have to worry. Have a great trip!
