How do you stay dry in a wheelchair

I agree with all that a poncho works best. My DD (age 9) uses a manual chair and tucked in right, etc. has always done the job...and during our visit a couple of years back we weathered Hurricane Fay! I would not recommend duct tape, binder clips, etc. with a child. The hassle of on/off would drive me over the edge :headache: During our last visit we had purchased a baby stroller sun parasol which had an very easy system of snapping on and off the wheelchair. It's Jeep brand. Not only did it work well in providing a bit of relief in the intense August heat but we also used it during rain in combo with a poncho to keep the top of her head more comfy and rain from her face. It was not large and did not get in anyone's way. As an added bonus, it was cute! A must for our litttle diva :)

A hands free umbrella?

The handle length & angle are adjustable so you can use it for the pusher or the person in the wheelchair.

My scooter solution........

Disney Housekeeping Extra Large Trash Bags.

Our first trip with the scooter we were staying at BWI...waiting for our room, we decided to wander over to BC and YC --- just wandering and a little stop at the YC Gift Shop (one of my favorites).

While there.....the "end of the World as we know it rainstorm" decended. Really, I have never seen rain come down that hard. We scooted through the Beach Club to the closest point to the bridge to BWI....but it was still raining.

Just then a mousekeeper appeared, saw our problem and loaned us a few of the giant-clear trash bags.

I put one over the seat.....another over the front steering and a third......over MYSELF with a hole poked for my face. DH took one for himself too.

I know we looked very silly....but we arrived dry (except for the bottom of DH's pants).

How about a rain jacket and pants. More to carry than a poncho but it would be better coverage. The rain pants I have are designed to pull over your other trousers. The rain pants have a zipper to help get them over your other clothes.

It still might be problem getting on the rain pants if someone had mobility issues.

As has been mentioned rain gear is problematic especially if you are active. Even the really expensive gear simply will get you as wet from sweat as from the rain if you are active. :confused3

And then is the wet shoe problem to solve. :)

Later,
Dan
