SO I went camping this weekend, brought everything, including the kitchen sink!!:harhar1: (motorhome)

sooo Im unloading,
lawn chairs, CK
fishing poles, CK
Rum, Ck
fire wood, CK
fire starter.............umm..er uh-oh:eek:

I normally take those little fire starter logs, light it and forget it.........not this time, they are back home in the shop..........damn damn damn,

Tried everything, paper plates, lint, some lamp oil.........nothing is going to light this hard wood........................

EXCEPT A ROAD SIDE FLARE!!!

YA BABY,

I got my camp fire going!!

what do you start a camp fire with?

I would say gasoline, but that usually burns the hairs off my eyebrows and they take so long to grow back and all.:upsidedow

Can of lighter fluid and a road flare, works great on wet wood.

I'm probably going to get slaughtered by the professional campers here but I swear by this method that my grandpa showed me a few weeks ago. I was trying to get a fire started in a little fire pit at my mom's house so the kids could do smore's. We had lots of fire wood and matches, for the life of me I couldnt get the fire going. My 82 year old grandpa saw my struggles and told me to get some paper and drop it in a walmart bag (yes the plastic ones). He said "that'll do'er" ... Now even though I thought he might have finally lost all sense, I do what I'm told, you just dont argue with grandpa.. and sure enough, something odd happened with melting plastic and paper and sure enough I had the best fire ever! I dont know what those bags are made of but there is something in there that burns very nicely :confused3 As a matter of fact I have used that method three times since then and it works everytime. The plastic sticks to the wood and somehow it just all works together.. I'm just saying..:wizard: [/I]

Who the hell is going to slaughter you, beats the hell out of burning my face off!:rotfl2:

Well those plastic bags are made from petroleum. Oughta burn pretty good! Just don't breathe in the black smoke while it gets going.

Well how long a list do you want me to tell you of the pollutants you released in the air? The main and worse one is HCL. Look it up and see what it does. You might think twice about using this method again. Just sayin. I mean just look at all the other stuff we burn. Never mind just burn em baby, burn em.

well...............its not a regular thing I do:rolleyes: was in a pinch, so what would you have done? keep in mind all I had was split hard wood, and a lighter:scared:

We had a scout leader show us how to start a fire with a can of spray paint and a cigarette lighter once! We missed that guy, he wasn't round very long. :rotfl2:

When we go camping, here in the northeast, there are typically a lot of pine cones and deadfall branches to be had. Start with smaller pieces about the size of your finger and make a big pile, add larger pieces as it burns.

Of course, if you know you will be in a campground that is crowded with no fallen branches to gather, you need to bring smaller "kindling" with you.

Wow, you guys are a lot more...um...creative than I am. We just do it the old-fashioned way: first layer of crumpled newspaper, second layer of kindling, third layer of logs. Light the newspaper, blow on it a little, and poof...fire.

Just take out your pocket knife and shave off some of that split wood. Every camper should have a pocket knife.

I knew someone would get me... :lmao: You are correct, but the pressure of 5 screaming kids wanting Smore's and a mother with a fire starting disability.. I was weak!

Go to warlmart, get your fire starters there, unless of course you don't have your car with you.:lmao:
Otherwise put your firewood in a pile, with a lit flashlight stuck in the middle and say, :wooooooooo, that they're be a fire. Good luck, :rotfl2: and be safe in whatever method you do. :thumbsup2

Blow torch works well, as well as a hair dryer if there are some sparks to flame. BTW don't use the wifes that she uses every day. I speak from personal exp

Yup! That sounds like something I would do! That is if I remembered the batteries for the flashlight! :rotfl:

Good thing that I have Bruce to rely on! He has all of the "proper fire making equipment" in our camping gear. :thumbsup2

BTW - a paper bag filled with shredded paper makes a good fire starter too. And it is a good way to get rid of those pesky credit card applications that fill your mail box!!

I have not tried it myself, but I was told to put the lint from the dryer in toliet paper rolls and let er rip. Maybe someone can confirm or deny this method.
