How do you sleep your DS/DD in a Studio or 1 Bedroom?

My kids are past the age where they share a bed (10 and 13). We are starting out in a studio at BCV and then moving to WLV to a 1 bedroom. Same problem at both locations, only two beds. I thought of bringing a twin blow up mattress (what a pain). Can I get sheets from housekeeping? I thought some of you said you make the extra chair into a bed but in looking at pictures of the two resorts I do not see how that works. What's your secret. Again, do they provide sheets when you do this? Thanks for the help.

We have been dealing with this for a while....DD is now almost 16 and DS is almost 14. For longer than I would like to admit each parent would get one kid.....and then we started adding more and more points, figuring that by now a two bedroom was a necessity. It also gives us the extra bathroom. I am one who wishes that there could be two couches that pull out, not necessarily to sleep more than 4 in the one bedroom but the configuration would be different. That way we could save on points and have more and longer trips!

So now we are really really spoiled, by getting a two bedroom. Staying at another resort.....we have to go back to the splitting up....unless there is a daybed ( my son still likes that)

We don't. We get a 2 BR. DS (10) will not share a bed with his sister....

I confess that DVC wasn't on my mind at the time ;), but we had two DDs :D

I now realise what an advantage this can be when faced with this kind of practical 'problem'. Mind you, DDs (now 17 and 13) wouldn't necessarily agree with me - they'd much rather we had a two-bedroom so that they didn't have to share!.

Best of luck in finding a working solution.

To answer your other question. NO, DVC says they will not provide bedding. Whether in practice they would help out remains to be seen and would likely be hit or miss. There are four of us and it's a 2 BR for us.

We always wind up bringing the aero bed , it rolls up small enought to fit in the bottom compartment of our rolling duffle bag. This areo is a camping one it does not have the moter attached ,it is seprate and you need to charge it but once charged it last for about four fills. We have a water bed sheet that has deep pockets and that stays with the bed. There are enough pillows in the unit so thats not a problem and we call and ask for an extra blanket. In the one bedroom my daughter sets up her bed and stuff in the closet off the bathroom and is very happy, in a studio it is a lot tigher but the areo does fit between the bed and pull out. We either store the bed in the closet of the one bedroom or just prop it against the wall in the studio. We have never found it to be a problem. Good luck

I am a new member at BCV and a lot of people were surprised that we started out with 800 points, but we did that for just the reason you are talking about. We have 2 childern, boy and girl, ages 4 & 6, so the 1 bedroom will be fine for the next couple of years but I knew it would be an issue so we bit the bullet and bought enough points for the 2 bedroom. For the next couple of years we are still going to get the one bedroom and bank the extra points to take a cruise. But I would imagine that when my 6 year old gets to be about 10, he will no longer want to sleep in the same bed as his sister.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but just thought I would let you know that we did think abou that exact same question when we purchased.

We've used the Aero beds, too, because of awkward sleeping needs. However, we ship ours out ahead of time (along with any extra bedding we think we need) to the resort we are staying at, and then ship it home, so we don't have to deal with the "lugging". Costs a few bucks more, but, for us, it's worth it.

We are new BCV members and are thinking about the same issue. DS (14) & DD (12) prefer NOT to share a bed anymore.

We will be staying in a 1 bedroom villa at BCV. DD is very petite and we were wondering if we could use the bench at the kitchen table as her bed, if we brought our own bedding. Has anyone tried this?

We also suggested that she pack the sleeping bag, just in case she winds up on the floor. Since we're driving, we have lots of room to pack extra stuff. Are the aero beds a good investment - anyone know how much they cost & how long they'll last?

My only other concern is about bugs if she uses the sleeping bag or an aero bed on the floor. Has anyone ever had a problem with creepy-crawlies?

We bring a camping mattress and blow it up. It is not a big deal at all. It is really comfortable and the kids do not mind sleeping on it at all. We usually set it up in the king bed room or by the sleeper sofa. They usually take turns each night while we are there.

hi: our youngest is a teen and often brings friends with us when we vacation. teen boys do not like to sleep on the same bed either. you can manage a full-size inflatable mattress in the living room with the sofa bed opened. it is definitely a tight squeeze though. more often, our ds will take the seat cushions from the sofa bed as well as the living room chair cushions and make up his own bed on the floor rather than lug the air mattress along. there isn't any extra bedding/linens provided by housekeeping. they will usually use the bedspread from the mbr for extra linens.

Guess I'm in the minority here but my kids have never minded sharing a bed. They'd prefer not to of course but while on vacation if there are only 2 beds they've always shared. We've vacationed at WDW (and elsewhere) since they were babies. They've always shared so they really don't see it as a big deal.

I have 3 teens,,,2 girls and a boy...and NONE of them will sleep in the same bed! And come to think of it, I should have a sign on my bed "Caution: Sleeping with this woman may be hazardous to your health! I thrash and kick and I'm told I snore, ,,,though I don't believe that for a minute.

So Im thinking it would be better to get 2 adjacent studios, rather than a 1br,,,,that way we all get our own bed (hubby refuses to go to WDW, so it works out)....though I hate to give up the washer/dryer, and the stove. On the plus side, you DO get that extra bathroom that way. Whatever works :)

Mickey7861,

I hope my kids are like yours as they get older. I would hate to have to always get a 2 BR. The kids need to understand the math of it all: 2 BR = less days at WDW. I think a 2 BR is great at HH where you spend more down time relaxing in the room. At WDW you spend less time in the room. If the kids get too big to comfortably share a full sized pullout, someone can do an aerobed/sleeping bag in a 1 BR.:)

Our DD's refuse to sleep together any more as well (13 & 11). We also bought the inflatable mattress....now they fight over who gets to use that! :D

My oldest DD who will be 20 in a few weeks would never sacrifice less days at WDW just for her own bed!

We also have DD (18) and DS (15). In the past our position has been, if you don't want to sleep together; someone will be on the floor. Typically, DS will use cushions to make a bed on the floor since he is a whirlwind in bed. I will admit, this trip we are getting 2 bedrooms to solve the problem. But I am sure the new arguement will be, who gets the bed and who gets the pullout. LOL.

Enjoy your stay! My kids too wouldn't want to sacrifice days at WDW because of the sleeping arrangements.

I am one of four children. If we gave our parents any grief about the sleeping situation, we were set off to stay with our Grandparents (or they came to stay with us) for the time they went anywhere.

This came to pass when my parents were planning a Hawaii trip, and we weren't going to share a second room. No problem, we had Grandma come and take care of us for a week, and Mom and Dad took the youngest to Hawaii.

We didn't do much questioning after that.

I like the idea of shipping the air bed/sheets ahead and then back before we leave. How far in advance do you ship? Also where is the closest location to ship from, to send it home? Any idea of the cost to do this? Thanks!

We were just there last week. I have 2 teenagers and they don't like to share a bed. One slept on the floor and housekeeping brought us extra bedding. No problem at all.
