How do you ship to Japan?

I'm currently trading with a Japanese pin trader via Pin Pics. I am really unsure of how to actually ship a pin to Japan. Well, maybe all it involves is an address, but I'm worried about the cost, customs, you know what I mean. So if anyone has done some trading overseas, I would really appreciate the help!

Shipping a few pins to Japan is quite easy and fairly inexpensive. Package them well, as would any other trade. You will have to fill out a Customs form. It is a small green and white form. On it it asks what you are shipping (Disney Pins), the cost of the items, your address and the address of the person you are sending it to. Shipping Air Mail usual only costs a few $$ for 2-3 pins. Insurance is the killer. It can drive the cost up to aroud $15!!! I usually ship uninsured and have had no problems.

I know someone posted about Global Priority mail so you mail want to look in to that option also.

Good Luck with your 1st international trade!

I usually ship Global Priority. It's a flat $5.00 using the smallest flat Global Priority mailer. It holds up to four small bubble wrapped pins or two to three larger pins. It's difficult to get any kind of insurance for the Japanese packages which is why the global seems a bit more reliable to me.

If you are only shipping one pin to Japan use a small LBE wrap the pin really well. It should cost about $.80 I have mailed 3 pinpics pins to Japan so far and all of them have made it with no prob. And 2 of them arrived before the people in the US got theirs...LOL

For one or two pins, I use first class airmail, and wrap the pins just like any other LBE going domestic mail. You do need the green and white customs form. I keep a supply of these at home, so that it's all filled out when I get to the post office.

For three or more pins (or two very expensive pins), I use the global priority, small envelope flat rate for $5.00.

I wrap the pins individually in bubble wrap, slip them all into a small plastic bag (I try to use those small yellow bags I've saved from WDW or DLR), but keeping the overall shape fairly flat. The plastic bag then slides easily into the global priority envelope and is more protected. I can fit up to ten pins in this envelope. I think the global priority envelope gets better attention when it reaches Japan, because it is obviously not standard airmail. Most of Japanese trading partners report receiving their pins in three business days! Global priority also requires the customs form.

There is a large global priority flat rate envelope for $9. It's about 8.5" x 11", and would hold one of those pin maps easily. I keep a supply of the small global priority envelopes at home, so I can seal everything up and arrive at the post office ready to mail.

I haven't used insurance because of the cost.

Please ask if you want more info.
