I transfer everything to serving dishes and serve my family. This is an every night thing in my house. Well unless we have take out.
I like take out night. No dishes!!:cool1:

OP, I'm with you. Serving dishes are for company or special occasions. It's just DH and I, why create more dishes?

Most of the time we transfer to dishes and put them on the table...but once in a while, we will serve right from the stove/counter top. It all depends on what we are having, what the night is like, etc. If I were to put it into numbers....probably 85% of the time we serve from dishes on the table.

I leave everything in pots then serve my family
if its a holiday or special occassion then i put things in dishes and place them on the table

Everything stays in the pots/pans and I make a plate for each person and they carry it to the table. When we have company I break out the serving dishes.

I usually leave it all on the stove and serve my family. It's just easier. On holidays and special occassions, I use serving bowls but usually have to dust them first from lack of use. My mil uses serving bowls all the time, even if it's just her and my fil.

I leave all of the food on the stove and turn the stove off. Then I make a plate for myself and one for my DH. Then I yell, "Come and get your dinner!" and we take our plates to the living room to watch TV.

DH cleans up! :thumbsup2

With the baby coming, we'll try to eat at the table more as a family.

I serve dinner in serving bowls. I started this when my kids were little and just continued doing it that way. Now my Mom always served out of the pots and pans she cooked dinner in and if my Dad was working late we passed the butter knife around to save on dishes!

Now I am a MIL and if that is all your MIL can find to complain about I would say that she should feel blessed! I can picture my DS :lmao: if I whined about my wonderful DIL's serving habits!

Heh... guess my family is in the minority here. We make the plates and then serve them to everyone. Except when we have family or more than just our family here - then we usually make pizza and a salad or something that can easily be dished out by themselves and made how they want. That usually pleases everyone. :stir:

I didn't vote because I used to put everything in serving dishes and put them all on the table and everybody helped themselves. But we changed our lifestyle since the beginning of the year and portion control is a big part of it. So I know portion/serve everyone's plates to them no pots or serving dishes on the table. Pretty much what I give you is what I get except for veggies they are unlimited. It working I have lost 27.5 lbs along with exercising 30 minutes a day on the treadmill.

Combination of everything depending on my mood! Though its usually serve yourself right off the stove (its just DH and I)>

If I make dinner (we are a fend for yourself family most of the time) I say, "dinner's ready" and they come to the kitchen, fill up their plates and eat wherever they want...usually in front of the tv with the Disney Channel on!

Wow, a lot of people serve from the pot..it has never even crossed my mind to do that, honestly.

Everything goes into a serving dish and then onto the table(and everyone serves themselves). We eat at the kitchen table and the TV(we can see the living room TV from the table) has to be off.

The only time I have ever been served from the stove is my MIL used to dish up the pasta from there.
I didn't mind, but I will never do it that way.

MIL thinks it's odd - personally I find it odd that my FIL is incapable of slapping toegther a bologna sandwich as my MIL LITERALLY makes every meal for him (even if it's a bowl of cereal) He'd go hungry in this house....:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Are your inlaws mine too? They are the same way! AND FIL doesn't even take his own dishes to the sink! When they are here though he manages to make his own plate just fine. :lmao:

I with you on this! I am suprised by this poll.

We always use serving dishes. And the TV MUST be off! Once I was invited to a coworkers house for Dinner, and they served out of the pot.

HONESTLY That was the only time in my life i saw this other than my neighbors who had 12 kids and a small kitchen with a table for 4!:confused3

However you do have less dishes to wash by serving out of the pot!:thumbsup2

if my Dad was working late we passed the butter knife around to save on dishes!

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: For some bizarre reason my Mom had a thing against paper napkins!:confused3 Really REALLY AGAINST Them!  When we were kids she pass around a towel! YUK!:lmao:

ps MOM (who is near 80) STILL can understand why one would need a napkin!!!:lmao:

Everyone fends for themselves, serving out of the pots or takeout box

I take the meal out of the microwave and put it in my lap and eat it while I watch TV or surf. DFi eats about 2 hours after me and does his own thing unless we make something for each other. When that happens, we'll do it either way.

What is the point in running extra loads in the dishwasher for all those serving dishes? Seems like a waste to me.

We bring the pots to the table and serve out of them if we can. Sometimes we might transfer something toa regular dinner plate that fits easily in the dishwasher. Serving bowls take up too much room in the dishwasher so we rarely use those, unless we have company.

If it's just DH and I, which is most nights, we get our food at the stove and sit in the family room =)
