this was inspired by the thread, do you need to seal a granite countertop. we just moved into a house and the previous owners told us to seal the granite 4x a year...but didn't say what we needed to do to seal it. does anybody know?

We have granite countertops.
Your local granite shop should have the clear sealer for sale.
We just scrape out the seems between the backsplash and the flat counter top with a little exacto knife from the local paint shop. We put the sealer in a small roller tray, with a small roller and small paintbrush.
First cut in around the edges then roll out the flat parts. Let dry and do it again. Looks nice and shiny and you can't see the seem between the granite and the backsplash!

All in all it shouldn't take more than an hour unless you have A LOT of Granite!

We've had ours for about 5 years and have never sealed it. It looks great.

We just got a granite countertop this summer. The company owner was here for the installation. He sealed it while he was there, and he said probably we'd never have to do it again, but if we noticed stains setting easily, then we should buy some sealer- Home Depot was a name mentioned. To seal it he poured something on the countertop and rubbed it and polished it with a cloth. He also gave us a spray bottle of some kind of cleaner that also seems to wax it a bit.

I just looked it up online, there are several sites. The one I read said that it should be resealed every three years.
