Just curious to know how each and every one of you save for vacations. I've already got $74 saved for my New Orleans trip by throwing my change from tips into a jar every Saturday and putting in my Ruby's paychecks. I also throw in odd dollars. If I have like $14 in my wallet, I take out 4 ones and put that into the jar too. :jester: :smooth: By the time May 21st rolls around, our vacation will be well payed for. :teeth:

So how do you guys do it? Just curious?

~~~Denise :wave:
I do a combination of things. First, I put a set amount of money from each paycheck into my savings account--I look at it as a fixed expense so I don't dip into that fund too much for non-WDW stuff. I put my tax refunds into savings also. I also save my change, which added up to about $300 on my last trip. :)
I make a budget, and then I just set aside the money I need in some sort of savings account.
2 ways--We have change jars that we save and roll
Also--I have a savings account at a credit union in the town I grew up in. (It is a good 40 minute ride away). I have money direct deposited into the account, I have no ATM card for the account. The only way for me to get the money is to actually DRIVE down and get it.
For our last Disney Trip, between these two sources, we had $700 of 'play money'
:D I wwas able to save $800 in change for our last Dis trip! DH paid for the rest with his savings (he is the saver and I am the spender! money burns a hole in my pocket - change is all that gets saved!)
I make sure all of my debts are paid, then I save the money for vacation. Nothing get done until the debts are paid though.
GOOD FOR YOU! That shows great responsibility. No need putting yourself into more debt by creating more. EXCELLENT JOB ON YOUR PART!! :D
eBay!! In fact, I'm surrounded by junk as we speak raising money for our Mother's Day girls only trip. ;)
Well, for DD we have a bank and we put change in it all the time and that gives her spending money for our trips.
The rest we just save up by setting aside money whenever we can and sometime when our MIL goes with us she'll pay for airfare.
My primary way of paying for vacations in by selling books on Amazon.com. I buy them at the local thrift stores and sell them for more than I paid :). It's taken me a long time (months!) to get a list of "good" authors but I still get stuck with some "stinkers". Still, I was able to pay for 6 nights at the Polynesian in Decemeber, 4 nights at the Sequoia Lodge in DLP in August, 4 nights at DL in March 2003, and 4 nights at AKL in July.
I also sell on Ebay, I do rewards and I save change.
We're DVCers so the accommodations/cruise are "paid" for.
I go to the Disney store once a month and charge $100 in Disney Dollars. After 8months I have $800 obviously. Its much easier to pay off 100/month on charge card than 800 all at once.
For our 3 summer mini-vacas I have envelopes. In the winter we dont do much around here except read/videos/clean so 1/2 my "wknd money" often finds itself in these envelopes ($25ish/wk). Then I have about $45 each paycheck that goes towards vaca too.
At least this is how Im doing it currently. We'll see what happens when the town fiscal budget changes July 1st. But by then alot of this will have already been saved.
We budget every week of the year so we can put a certain amount aside.:D
Well, we do two of those! We have DVC, so that part is taken care of. We throw change in a big coke bottle bank for our AP's every other year. We save about $900 a year that way!
Tax refunds usually pay off our trips. I know a lot of people are against paying extra in taxes but I look at it as a forced savings plan...and it works well for us.
I set aside money each paycheck and we also save change.
The change is usually used to fuel DH's pin habit. :)
Its all about the income tax refund. Or me getting a job, which puts alot of stress on us. ((I spend 3 or more hours a day with DD(11) doing homework/studying)). And thats in addition to whatever cooking, cleaning/laundry need to be done on any particular day:rolleyes:
DH and I each put $200 into our savings account each month, plus I have a change jar on the kitchen counter. Our last cruise was paid for out of our savings, but we did charge a few hotel rooms and of course what we bought on the ship. We are doing the same thing for our next cruise.
We save $500 per month for vacations. It goes into a special savings account that is just for vacations. They are very important to us, and we like to have better accomodations.
As for my change jar, that goes into the kids' college savings funds, along with the amount that we save for them each month.
I use DVC and I also have a 1 gallon water jug to save for my upcoming trip
My choices aren't really in your poll.
We always use our tax refund and a change jar.
I know that there are people who say that it is foolish to get a big tax refund because the government is earning interest on "your" money, but if I don't see it - I don't miss it - I don't spend it. That springtime boost to the bank account is always welcomed.
The change jar provides money for "extras" like souvenirs and fancier sit-down meals.
