How do you "sample" your way around the world showcase?

I don't think we want to eat a full meal in one place. I think we would like to sample food, drink and entertainment in different countries.

Where can you do this?

If you did it this way, where did you go & what did you have?

the best time to do this is at the f+w festival, but when we're not there at that time of year we usually have a beavertail from canada, beer from england, a crepe from france, this wonderful tangeriene cocktail in morrocco, we usually skip italy and america, kaki gori in japan, beer in germany, egg rolls in china, rice cream in norway, and a wet burrito or a margarita in mexico. :teeth: we usually split one thing from each place, that way we're not totally stuffed. :)

We call it Eating Around the World, and it is one of our favorite activities in WDW. We pick a country and begin to eat. We stop at each country's counter service restaurant and choose something off the menu to share. Here are some examples of what we've chosen to eat:

UK: fish and chips
Canada: beaver tail
Mexico: combination plate
Norway: chocolate cake, vaffel
Italy: tiramisu
Germany: hot pretzel
China: eggrolls
Japan: kaki gori (shaved ice)
Morocco: lamb sandwich
America: turkey leg
France: pastries

I think this is all of them. We love to do this on every vacation. We've found that it's better than just picking one full service restaurant and paying a lot for a sit down meal (which we've also done). Sometimes drinks count, too, but not always. Have fun!!

We always start in England. First stop- Rose & Crown for a Bass Ale & a BV Cab for DW. Stroll around England catch World Showcase Players. On to Canada. A Blue Light for DD. Catch Off Kilter maybe some popcorn. Alot of folks like those Beavertails. We usually make a little detour and head on over to Test Track - single riders line - then it's back to Old Mexico. A Dos Equis for DD - if I am inclined. Now we have been in the park about 3 hours. Time for a little taco or maybe we go inside to The River of Time have the Queso with chorizzo and chips and if really hungry we order a full meal & split. Next is Norway. Just got to do Maelstrom. DH enjoys those open-faced turkey sandwiches and a BV Cab. We stroll through the shops look at the trolls and other gifts, then it's on to China. Kids usually get an egg roll and perhaps a little more seasame chicken or something. Sometimes we stop in Germany - sometimes not. I may or may not have a Hinny- usually not. We may or may not stop in Italy. Often times we stroll the shops for a few minutes, but that's about it. We always stop in the good ole US of A. Hopefully we catch the Fife & Drum Corps and the movie, The American Adventure. We discovered that we really don't like to miss it. We did for years - but not anymore. It is worth seeing. I can't live without those hot cinnamon covered almonds and it wouldn't be right to not enjoy a Bud Light. We always stop in Japan - Mikoshui (probably not spelled correctly) Department Store. DD is a Hello Kitty fan, they have "it all" aaccording to her. Always a stop in Morrocco. Hopefully the Belly Dancer (for the ethnic experience - broadening our life experiences, you know). Perhaps a Bud Light BUT always a baklava. DW will always stop at Boulangerie for a baugette and perhaps a glass of red wine. I just can't make myself go in there - I have pretty hard feelings about the way they behaved in the UN, call me petty, call me whatever, but after we defend them, liberate them and prevent their national language from becoming German or Russian that's the way we are repaid. Anyway, enough of the political commentary. My wife always stops. "I wait in the car".

Now at the Food & Wine Festival the "order of battle" is a bit different. But that's a different post.

The last time we did this was a month or so ago...a warm up for the food/wine fest...lol.

We started with pints of beer and the fruit/cheese platter in the Rose and Crown Pub in England.

Then on to Canada...for Moosehead, popcorn and salt/vinegar chips.

We do the wine tasting in Germany, then to the patio for brats and sauerkraut. The summer Strawberry infused drink is very nice also.

We do the wine tasting in Italy...a full flight with villa grazia limonciello (ya gotta try this stuff).

We keep checking the bakery in Norway, but they have taken out all of our favorites and really cut back...so we havne't spent any money in there in a long time. Bring back the Ring Cakes!!!

In France we stop for Kir Royal...champagne with creme de cassis in it. Very nice.

My goal on our trip was to have a beer in every country. I had my DW take a photo of me drinking in front of the main attraction in each country. The pics are all together in our photo album and it's a great souvenir. The same series of pics eating in every country would be pretty cool too.

I'm usually on my own when I do this because the others think that they need real meals for some strange reason. ;)

I usually get rice cream and lefse at Norway. Then I walk this off a bit and get a chocolate mousse at France. DS does like the fish and chips in Great Britain.

If I decide to enjoy a beer or two, I like to get a Ringnes in Norway and stop in Great Britain for a Tennant's.

We usually go clockwise so it works like this:

Mexico -- share something from counter service, taco, burrito, etc..
Norway -- cookies or something small from the store, or skip it
China -- egg roll
Germany -- chocolate covered pretzels from the candy store, or caramel apples
Italy -- cookies from the store, or skip
Japan -- kaka gori
America -- funnel cake
Morroco -- drinks
France -- chocolate mousse and pain au chocolat
UK - walkers shortbread from the tea store
Canada - beaver tail

I am now soooooooo hungry

We did this on our first trip. We didn't plan any other meals that day and we just ate our way around the WS as we toured. I don't remember everything we had but I know we had a margarita in Mexico, lefse in Norway, pretzel in Germany, turkey leg in American pavilion, fish and chips in UK, beavertail in Canada, etc..

It was a really fun day and we had a great time. :)

We do this EVERY trip....here's our itinerary:

We come in through the International Gateway and head straight for the Guiness line and fish & chips snack or scotch eggs (when they have them) in England. If we can, we snag a bench, munching and drinking. I shop, we see the characters or band and then on to

France-personal fav (politics aside) - We go into Chefs and I order the pate and a glass of chilled white wine and we sit at the wine bar watching the people pass. I usually shop and we see the movie and then on to

Morrocco-not big middle eastern cuisine fans but the shopping is great. The reed basket (like a picnic basket) makes a great carry on and then I give it to someone for Christmas and then on to

Japan-Matsu No Ma lounge for tempura.

America-DH has to have a tube steak, I mean hot dog. We sit outside and listen to the music if something is going on and go inside and see the show and then on to

Italy-WINE, WINE, WINE! Picture by the fountain (always), shopping and then on to

Germany - Bratwurst and Beer and, hopefully, some fun German music and then on to

The Outpost - no food or wine for us here but we love to play with the sprinklers! and then on to

China - egg roll, shopping and entertainment and then on to

Norway - maelstrom...not too crazy about their cuisine so it's on to

Mexico - Cantina-Dos Equis - and Nachos! Boat ride, shopping and hopefully Illuminations

WHEW, we sound like a couple of gluttonous drunks but we usually start at around 12:00 - 1:00 PM so we take our time and stroll around and look at the shops, gardens, shows and people.

Sometimes, just for fun, we do it the other way and hit Canada, too. I know everyone loves the Beavertails but we just never took to them and, hey, isn't Canada just another *****ula of Michigan anyway. Canadian beer and cuisine here is as common as Sam Adams in Boston!

This is our most favorite thing to do at Epcot. We usually do it twice and when we were younger and there were only two parks...we'd do it every night!

Eating and drinking around the world is my favorite part of Epcot. So much tasty stuff. The only time we do sitdown in Epcot is after we have finished out a different park. Our Epcot days we save our appetites for sampling the countries.

I keep seeing beavertails in Canada mentioned and I don't have a clue as to what it is. Somebody clue me in please!!!

This is what we normally do, it so much fun and what makes WS my favorite part of Disney. This trip I was going to do something different and made 2 PS' for dinner, but you guys made me just change my mind!!! Thanks:wave:

This is my typical tour:

Mexico-kid's meal (burrito, chips, soda)

Norway-waffle w/strawberry jam

China-bubble tea

Germany-pretzel

Italy-wine

America-usually skip

Japan-california roll or Pocky

Morocco-Moorish coffee (espresso w/spices)

France-crepes

UK-fish and chips or Crunchie Bar

Canada-Beaver Tail

Beavertails are kind of like elephant ears, kind of like crepes. They have several different toppings to choose from such as strawberries, hazelnut and others. They are messy but yummy.

We usually get
Margarita in Mexico
Tiramisu in Italy
Ham sandwich on pretzel bread in Germany
also candy in Germany from the little store that sells Haribo
Sushi in Japan
Beer in UK ....usually Guiness or Tennants
something different every time in Morocco
Marvelous and a cappuccino in france

So far we haven't done Norway, China, and America

My son and I TRIED to do dessert in every country, over a couple nights! We were not successful so we'll have to go back...LOL!

We started at France with chocolate mousse and a napoleon. In Morocco we had baklava. In Japan we had a kaki gori. In America we had a funnel cake. In Italy we had cannoli. In Germany we had apple strudel.

That's all the further we got. We could never do this in one evening - we'd be SICK - but we had a lot of fun and will continue on our trip next June.

We do that every trip on the last day in the parks. We call it our "Crap Snacking" day. I guess we will have to change the name soon since my DS in now 22mnths old.

We basically eat or drink a little something from every country during the day. I am pretty sure all of the countries have vendors or counter service restaurants.

Have fun!

MUST DOs:
Marguerita in Mexico- I may have to skip it this upcoming trip because I may be pregnant (crossing my fingers).

Bakery at Norway- Frosted Almond Pretzel or School Bread

United Kingdom- Fish and Chips (DH will not eat any seafood but still will snack on this).

***We love getting a couple of treats then walking over to Mexico and eating at the tables overlooking the lake during Illuminations. You must get there early but its worth it.

This thread is awesome! We wanted to do something like this but had no clue where to stop for goodies. Keep 'em coming!!!! :D :D
