First you should research the different DVC resort by reading the Frequently asked questions at the top of this page. Then you need to decide if a specific resort is important to you. Go to the rent trade board on this forum and see if you can find someone who is specifically renting for that resort. You could just post exactly what you need and when over on the rent trade board, and the folks with points for rent will contact you after checking availability. How early in 2006 are you thinking of? Since we are down to just being a couple of months away from the new year, you need to decide quickly to find anything available.

Since you are not a member, you can't check on availability. The member will have to do that for you.

January and February are both going fast. You need to contact someone soon and nail down your dates. Renting a reservation from a member is not as flexible as going directly through Disney. Cancellation may not be an option at this point.

Go to the Rent/Trade Board, and contact someone who is advertising that they have points to rent. Tell them that you are looking to rent a two bedroom villa for 5 nights, and tell them when. You will probably have to be flexible on dates, just because time is short now. There is a calculator on that site that will help you figure out how many points your ressie will cost. The member will contact Member Services to check availability for you, and make the reservations. After the ressies are made, the member will send you the confirmation number and phone number, so you can verify that a ressie was made. After that, you will need to send a deposit to the member to hold your ressie for you, and they will send you a confirmation slip in the mail after about 10 days.

And remember: it's rude to take up the member's time if you aren't really serious, so decide if you really want to rent points BEFORE you ask him to check on dates for you. ;)

Just so you know you can pay cash thru Disney just like a regular hotel room. It would be more expensive then renting points, though.

As far as where to stay, with 2 little ones you may be thinking of spending alot of time at MK. The closest DVC resort to MK is Villas at Wilderness Lodge. It is a nice boat ride over to the MK and buses to the other parks.
