How do you relieve stress?

I go to the gym or run
Baking somehow calms me
I play on my DS
If I have a good book, I read

Aisling likes to talk it through - Aisling, are you an extrovert? I am very much an introvert and the only way I work through things is to turn inwards and work things through in my head. If you look at my list up above, those are all things I do when I go into my own little world - they aren't really interactive even if there are other people around me while I am doing those things.

Conservative Hippie, you said don't tell you Dis'ing, but I have to say - I was reading the Dis for a few years before I ever logged on. The summer my father was dying my DD finally setup an i.d. for me so I could post because I was coming to the Dis a lot so I could get to my "happy place". We weren't planning a trip but I could read about Disney and talk to other people about their Disney trips and bring myself to a happier mindset even if it was only for an hour or two. This actually was a place for me to come and escape the stress!

I think it depends on what kind of stress is following me.

Sometimes I need to shut myself in alone to just be for about 15 minutes to think and try to put everything in place.

Other times if I'm making myself stressed (and I think alot of people put extra stress on themselves) I stop and figure out if I can make it better or change the situation.

There are times I just get in my car, roll the windows down, play the music loud and just go. This trip usually involves a stop for a sweet tea to let me feel like I'm indulging for just me.

Most importantly you need to make time for yourself. You can feel stressed and overwhelmed easily when you aren't making yourself a priority.

Talk to my husband
read
listen to Green Day - loud
take a walk on the beach (weekend)
Coors Light or wine (evening)
herb tea (afternoon)
Call my sister or my aunt

Yoga! I like to workout at home, but yoga I prefer going to class for, where for an hour it's only me and yoga.

I'd like to try meditation, but just haven't gotten into the habit yet.

My mind has so many thoughts jumping around in it, it's wonderful to take a quiet moment to try and let it all drop away and clear your mind of those thoughts. Not easy!

Me too! And I think it is an excellent stress reliever along with being very good for you in moderation.:goodvibes I also like to read, garden, hike and bake but booze is #1 on the list.:rotfl2:

Yoga used to be my favorite stress reliever, but with 2 kids I don't get a lot of chance to do it anymore (my gym doesn't have classes, so I use DVDs at home). I go to the gym and walk on the treadmill for an hour, so that is good for me and gets me "away" for a while. But my other stress reliever is not good for me - I like to wait until everyone else goes to bed and then watch mindless TV and eat ice cream. (Which is why I need to go walk on the treadmill for an hour!)

I am a pretty high-strung person, I can't really seem to unwind much. Since having my second child I am much more stressed out and need to find ways ot deal with it.

Sounds like we would get along just fine!
I also like to take "naps" with DW to release some stress too.;)

Hmmm..oddly enough, that would by high on my DH's list of stress relievers as well.:lmao:

Bubblebaths for sure. I would kill to have one of those awesome deep pedestal tubs.

Prayer and reading Scriptures would have to be #1 for me. Physical activity also helps me a lot. If I can get to a dance class, that is my first choice, but if not I will pop in a fitness DVD or go for a long walk with the dog.

Traditionally "relaxing" things like taking hot baths reading don't really relax me, they just make me dwell on what I am stressing out about. I find things like cleaning, moving, making lists, working on solutions and keeping busy actually make me feel best.

Soaking in my Jacuzzi tub.
Playing with the dogs.
Ride my bike (when it's warm outside)
Clean
Go Shopping

TC:cool1:

Nothing wrong with taking "naps" by yourself to relieve stress either.....
