How Do You Pronounce

Just booked it today for dinner. I asked for the "steakhouse in Canada" and the CM said "you mean le cell- E- A (sounding like the letters of the alphabet). Not sure if this is the commom pron but it is what I heard today from one CM.

The CM I talked to last week when I booked said, "Luh Sell - ee - ay"

I've also heard "Luh Sell - ee - er" but the first one seems to be the popular "French" pronounciation.

The two CM's who talked with kapica3 and slk537 were using the proper French pronounciation, but you will definitely hear it pronounced many ways.

You know you're a redneck if......

I've been telling my husband that I made ADR's for La Cell-yer! Of course, that's what happens when an Okie speaks french!

We have a small town near here named Versailles, and I just can't bring myself to tell you how it's pronounced. Let's just say we'd make an Okie speaking french feel right at home here in Kentucky!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: LOL. Too Funny.

If you are familiar with the NHL, think of the name Vincent Lecavalier. Though if you not than this post will be useless. :rotfl:

Le Cellier is pronounced --- lay-cell-yay

"L" is pronounced the same as "l" in leg
"e" is a pronounced like UH

Cell is Cell (or Sell)
ie is ee (hard e)
r is like "eh" (Canadian eh!)

So you have LUH SELL EE EH

Good luck!

I used to live in Madison Indiana, and I know what you mean about Ver sails.
I have also always been unsure of how to pronounce LeCellier. When I made ADR's last week, I just said Canada. The CM said Le Cell yer. I didn't think that was right, but didn't dare try to correct her.

Ahhhh, Versailles.
I grew up in Florida in a subdivision where all the street names were French. A pronunciation guide did not come with the purchase of a home. A street near my house was known to everyone as Ver-sail-eees. I was in my twenties before I realized how wrong that was. I'm just glad we didn't live on Mar-se-ale drive (Marseille)
