Is the pronunciation Of Vineland-Apopka said like vine with a long i or short i sound. I thought I heard it with the short i sound. :teacher:

VINE..with the long I is how I say it. There's a Vineland in New Jersey and we say it VINE-lind

Maybe it's because I'm from the Boston area...but we pronounce Martha's Vineyard with a short i (vinyahd :) )

I'd probably say it that way!

We live very close to wine country here in WA. when we do tastings, the wineries say vineyard with a soft "I" (vin-yard). That isn't meant to sound snooty, just that they are "professionals" and that's how they say it lol. I've never heard it said any other way:-)

Funny how words are said differently depending on where we all live!

ETA: so I would pronounce Vineland with a soft "I" just because that's what i'm used to.

I have never hear vineyard pronounced any other way, other than short i.

However in Orlando, Apopka-Vineland road, which I assume the OP was asking about the road is pronounced with a long i.

It's land o' the vines -- like wine (or ivy), not like a vintner who works in a vineyard.

As one who used to live in the area, it's said w/ a long i sound. :)

I used to live at Vista Way/The Commons we always said Vine-like Wine never heard it pronounced any other way.

Not to hijack but this thread made me laugh because the city I live in ...Salina... has always been with a long 'I' locally, but in most other areas it's pronounced Sa-leen-as. I always know when it's a telemarketer calling because they always pronounce it with a short 'I'.

I will be going to Vineland, NJ tomorrow we pronounce it with the long I.
