How do you pronounce Castaway "Cay"?

I love this thread. My name just so happens to be Cay....but it is pronounced "Kai." I love being able to buy merchandise with my name on it! I can't wait til April for our next cruise. Digging out of our 2nd snow storm here in Virginia!:cool1:

Quite correct... because the 'English' way to spell it would be QUAY (again, pronounced KEY). :goodvibes

They're not the same thing, actually. A cay is an island, but a quay is not an island, in the US we call it a wharf -- somewhere that ships can tie up, basically.

Cay is from the Spanish word "cayo," pronounced "kai-jo": http://education.yahoo.com/reference/dict_en_es/spanish/cayo

And yes, you can pronounce cay "kay," not just "key."

Anyone want to weigh in on the procunciation of Mt. Desert Island. Is it "desert " as in the Sahara Desert or is it "dessert" as in my favorite dessert is Blueberry Pie.!:rotfl: Mainers and want to bees have been debating this for a long time.:rotfl2: Personally I will take my Cay anyway I can get it.:goodvibes

Wow! Glad I asked the question! It brought out a whole bunch of crazy information from you Dissers! :woohoo:

Depends on if there's people on that island. Get it....deserted....dessert...desert..... :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

That's okay, most of the time even my family doesn't laugh at my jokes........:sad2:

too funny about this question. it so bugs me that its spelled with an A but pronounced with an E!

I'm just impressed that this topic had 26 posts before I clicked reply. I see just what trouble three little letters can cause! Actually, I have probably learned more about a single word than I ever wanted to, but every bit of it has been interesting and fun to read.

Wow !!...what an education this is turning out to be :lmao:..I alway assumed that 'Cay' referred to the wharf, since it is pronounced the same as our word 'quay'.......amazing what you learn on here !:goodvibes
