How do you print your magnets.

Just looking for magnet printing tips.

I was able to print off at home but there are small lines in it and the color is not very rich. It is a new printer with newish ink but not a photo printer.

Does anyone take to kinkos and find they have fantastic results? Do you get it laminated there as well? Any idea on price per magnet to do this?

I was able to print out my pictures at home then place them into these self seal laminating sheets. Placed a few peel and stick magnets on the back and you're done.

Those look great. I was planning on printing them at Costco, just like a photo, then laminate them. I'm interested what others are doing as well.
That self Laminating sheet looks interesting.

Yes they were very easy. I picked up and 8-10 count from wal-mart for 8 dollars. The sheet opens up like a folder with one end already sealed. Once you print out the photo in the size that you want just place it on the bottom sheet and carefully fold the top half over it and you done. I made the mistake of cutting too close around the edges of one of my pictures and it started to open up but nothing a little clear scotch tape couldn't fix.

I used that special ink jet magnetic paper. I think it was from Staples. I printed it on the highest quality settings my printer would do then I waited for quite awhile before touching it. I also added some embellishments (purple glitter glue) to my Malificent horns. :)

My daughter also used the magnetic paper to make her own drawings to put on the door.

Was it something like this?

That is what I use for our magnets. I got them off of Amazon. Apparently I don't know how to quote a previous thread. Hmmm! I was replying to the picture above this post.

We print at home on paper, cut out the letter and add to colored card stock. Then we hit the kinkos for lamination and add magnets once we get home.

I've had the lines show up on the magnet paper, too - it was when I used the Avery brand. The only brand I use now is the Staples brand of magnetic sheets. It is glossier and the end product is so much better. It doesn't seem like it would make a difference, but it did in my case.

To directly quote one post, click on "Reply" on the lower right. If you want to multi-quote, click on "+Quote" in all posts you want to quote and just start replying in the box on the bottom of the page, there's a "insert quote" button on the bottom, it will prompt you which quotes you want to include in that reply.

Thanks that is informative. I can see where the paper/brand makes a difference and did not think of that. I used magnet paper too and did not really think about the brand as it was an off craft store brand. Might give the staples brand a try. Thanks.

I used the magnetic sheets from Avery and only had a small issue with one. I totally botched the laminating of one and need to reprint and redo it. First time using my laminator. I just dread going back and cutting them out after the laminating. The first time was bad enough. lol

I print photos at Costco, cut them out, and slap a magnet on the back. I'm not picky and have been very pleased with the results! And not to put down the people who use the magnetic paper, but whenever we've gotten those in our FE we spend the rest of the cruise picking them up off the floor. None of the magnetic paper seems to be that strong.

Oh man really? With a magnet rating of 1 I could see this being an issue. For a few days I did not think it would be a big deal. I actually just assumed that is what everyone used. I never really thought of it any other way until reading here. I guess that is why I was confused when people said laminate, wondered how people did that with magnet paper.

Did anyone else on here notice that problem. Maybe I will bring some stronger magnets to hold them up.

We just printed at home with a standard Canon Ink Jet Printer on regular 8x11 white paper (used Picasa to format the picture to fill the page so ears weren't cropped, set to high quality, cut out the shape, and then laminate, again cut out the shape and stick adhesive magnets to the back. For magnets we just bought a self adhesive magnet sheet from Amazon for like $7 comes in a large roll and then you can just cut out strips or shapes as needed. One roll was enough to cover 10 Mickey Heads + a few other shapes...

Anyone found a magnet paper that you're very happy with? I would love to make some for our FE group, but I would hate to give them something that does not stick.

I recently used the Staples Magnetic paper in my inkjet printer and was pretty happy with the printing quality. However on day 3 of our week long cruise on the Magic I noticed the magnetic paper starting to not stick on the door. By day 5 they started to full off the door. Think I'll try laminating and using magnets on our next cruise.

The neodymium magnets also called rare earth magnets are what is recommended if you are sailing on the Wonder and Magic because the doors are so thick with paint the magnets just cannot get enough pull on them through all the layers with the magnet paper or magnet strips. You would also need this type for the concierge doors as they have a laminate finish over the metal door, again requiring a stronger magnet to get a firm pull.
