How do you picture this virus finally ending

Wait, what? You're saying your school district knowingly allowed bus staff who currently tested positive to interact with students in a confined area like a bus?

The mind boggles.

school district contracts with a company for buses/drivers/staffing on buses. the district notified parents a couple weeks ago that their contracted company had 18 positive cases/18 more that were quarantining. no specific information was given on if they were the company's office staff, mechanics or those with day to day contact with the kids (let alone what routes they drove/monitored). now all of a sudden it's the much higher numbers and the one resulting death. contractor says it's been reporting all along to the school district and the regional health district as they are supposed to. school district is saying 'well, we've been aware that there have been reports that x company hasn't been following all the safety protocols but we'll be working closely with them to ensure everyone's safe' ummmmmmmmmmm, shouldn't that have been happening since day 1????? you have to wait until someone has died and countless numbers of students and other staff have been exposed?

Why are they checking ID's then?
Because they have to to administer any medication. They also have to make sure that people fit within eligibility guidelines and match the name on the appointment.

I literally worked at a vaccination clinic that allowed people who worked or lived in the county. My job was to check them in. CVS has made an appt for a family member in the neighboring county AFTER I put in our zip code. A relative got vaccinated in a Kaiser in the neighboring county. I’m giving you actual proof that what you said was wrong. Here are the rules for the FEMA run sites in our state - “any Californian who meets the guidelines”

Why is so hard for you to admit your blanket statement wasn’t true? Just because it’s the rule in Sacramento, doesn’t make it the rule statewide.

This an extremely unhealthy way to think and I hope you see a therapist for it. Did you feel this way during cold/flu season before?
No, I did not because I could not kill them. I know MANY people who have died from this disease and some that have long term effects. I have not seen my mom in over a year. She just got the vaccine. I might see her now with a mask on after she gets her second dose. Might wait until I get the vaccine. We will see. It is not unhealthy. It is common sense.

Oh sweetie, you could have killed them before. Many people die of the flu and pneumonia - especially the elderly.

I do not know a single person who has died from the flu. I know many who have died from Covid. Plus, for the flu, for the most part you know you are sick and don't go out. With Covid, you can be asymptomatic and spread it. No, if I kill someone like that I would have to kill myself. No way I could live with that. Not if I did it deliberately. And right now, if I chose to have close contact without a mask, then I am choosing to possibly kill someone. Giving them a cold is one thing, this is something else.

Ahh but I do..my uncle last Feb of double pneumonia complications of the flu. Many people say "if you don't know someone who...you act differently" perhaps this applies here.

The fact is you never thought about it before, right now all your mind can think about is covid which is compounded by the knowledge of actually knowing people who have contracted it and passed away from complications of it. It does not mean that during the cold and flu seasons of the past that you could have unknowingly (or knowingly) passed off something (that doesn't necessarily need to be the cold or the flu but can be other things) that ended up with someone's death. I would never tell you that to make you feel guilt but you need to be able to understand this salient fact.

No I have not. I have only had the flu once and that was 20 years ago. Our kids gave it to us, so we didn't give it to anyone because we were home with then. That was over 20 years ago and I have gotten the flu shot every single year and never gotten it since. I will get the Covid shot as well so I don't give that to anyone either.

I will not kill anyone. Period. If I do, then I do not deserve to live. Just drop it.

You cannot on one hand claim you'll kill someone with covid and not realize you can do the same with the flu, that's not how it works and there are generations of data to back that up.

You are the one throughout this entire pandemic who is concentrated on killing someone and we're just trying to give you information. I cannot help if that information isn't what you want to hear.

I agree with a lot of people that eventually it will just fade away. The effects in many ways won't. At least look at how vaccinations has come around. Many thought it would take much more time to have the vaccine work even if the development had already been in the works. We're getting there!

It’s easier to vaccinate against than the flu, vaccines are much higher efficacy.
It mutates much slower than flu.
Vaccines will stop you dying or getting seriously ill with all current variants. Some protection will always remain unless the spike protein dropped off the virus (source, Sarah Gilbert).
They are designing a booster shot to increase efficacy against variants, if needed can be administered by winter.
When under control we may need a booster every 3-5 years, maybe not.
Deaths are absolutely plummeting in the U.K. which is doing very well on vaccination. In a few weeks they may even be below normal levels.
Summary- vaccines will have us back to near normal, quicker than most believe.

Please take a mental health break!! I'm concerned you aren't doing that with seeing how you talk about the virus :sad1:
Um , how? My good friend’s husband died from it yesterday. He was my age. They have a 20yo daughter. I just cant close my eyes and wish Covid away

So if I’m out I could kill someone. But if that person is out too couldn’t they kill someone including me. So we’re all out potentially killing folks.
Didn’t you already have COVID or am I mixing you up with someone else? If you did and it wasn’t bad then I could see not worrying much. If it wasn’t you just ignore me. 🙂

I don’t scoff at the virus like some here but you do sound a little too negative. I’m sorry about your friend’s husband. That is reality for many and could certainly make some jittery.

Yes I did but I’ve always done things within the guidelines of my state since covid started. And my SO and son never tested positive and do the same. I’m not out here balls To the wall not wearing a mask and not washing my hands. We do everything within our guidelines but we’re also not thinking about covid constantly. It’s here and it’s here to stay so I learned to live with that.

I think we all take chances when we go out. I still have no idea how I got Covid because I was hyper-careful, and at the time was only going to one place, the pharmacy, only to pick up my medications. I sanitized, I was careful not to touch things unnecessarily,I washed my hands, I social distanced. I've relaxed somewhat- I do the family's grocery shopping and I go to stores when I'm out with my sister. I think as more people are vaccinated the vigilance will just sort of...peter out and little by little everyone will go back to what feels normal for them. I have to say the first time I walk into a store without a mask I'll feel like I went out without a bra on, though.

What I meant by a mental health break means talk to people who deal with mental health and take a break from the forums. Telemedicine is really common right now and would be a good fit for you as you are apprehensive about going out in public.

I think you've been talking about your concern for killing someone else with the virus for so long now. This board may not be doing you any good. You seem to be screaming for help in almost all of your comments. I wish you the best but I truly don't know that this board is doing you any good. You may not be able to wish covid away but you can control the venues you are on and what threads you go on. This seems to be adding more to your plate unnecessarily.

I hope you can find a safe place to work through all that you appear to be going through and all your thoughts. We all need to make sure our mental health is taken care of :flower3:
