Hi Guys, got me worry head on again. Have been reading various posts and picking up my hire car has started to worry me.

I am travelling with virgin and have their hire car package,i intend to get car sorted before picking up luggage.

What is the proceadure at the desk, do i have to go to the Virgin car hire desk? I have read that when you get to car lot you just pick a car???? is that right and how do you know which is yours to choose?? any other information gladly welcome, never driven there before so need to get this sorted. ta very much...

Hi

The car hire is not difficult at all - Virgin use Alamo so after you collect your luggage you go downstairs to the Alamo desk. Beware of the car hire staff they always try to sell you upgrades and extra insurance that you don't need!!

Check before you go that you have all inclusive car insurance and be firm with the Alamo staff!!!

Once you have completed the paperwork you go out of the terminal and across the road to the multi - storey car park - go to the alamo section then to the relevant car size section e.g mid size or full size then just pick any car from that row!!!!

Make sure you have a good look around the car to check for bumps - then mention anything you see to the attendant on the way out of the car park - its as easy as that!!!!!

I thought Virgin used Dollar? We travelled with Virgin in Aug 02 and had Dollar and in Dec 04 the Virgin rep directed us to the Dollar desk.

Ali, you can't go wrong. The Virgin reps pounce on you as soon as they see you have a Virgin luggage tag and virtually take you to the desk.

oops... don't know why I thought it was Alamo..think that may have been when I went with BA!! Sorry for any false info... should be the same sort of process though!!

Thanks for the info Jill. It is the first time we will be hiring a car this year :)

With Dollar we've always been told a specific car to collect. We were told which bay number to go to and I hope the keys we were given would fit only one car! ;)

Any time I've had a car through Virgin I've had to hand the carhire voucher over to someone at the entrance to the car lot and someone else has collected the car and brought it to us. I've never actually gone to get it myself!

We've used Dollar lots of times - most recently when we flew with Virgin and every time have been given specific keys for a specific car - maybe Alamo do this wander down the lane and pick the next available car thing!

Last time we picked up our luggage and then went to get the car - there was a very long queue and we waited over an hour - not good after a nine hour flight!

As there are nine of us travelling this time I'm going to suggest that the boys go sort out the cars while the girls wait for the luggage (I think we may stay together for the first luggage pick up - and then send the boys off before we pick it up the second time!) that should mean we all get to the car at the same time... hopefully :0)

alamo and hertz let you pick cars sometimes depends on airport i thought dollar at mco was a bus ride from the terminal

It's about 50 yards across the road from the Dollar desk at baggage reclaim.

Unless things have changed since 2003 (and I doubt it given the various posts I've seen on the boards), Virgin have their own specific Dollar desk on the car rental level.

The main Dollar desk is on the right and Virgin have their own area to the left virtually opposite the main Dollar area. I usually go down here and sort out the car while DW and DDs collect the luggage - saves ooddles of time.

You then walk straight across the road to the multi-story car park behind the Virgin Dollar desk, hand over your docket and are directed to a car.

Easy-peasy.

We've literally just returned from Florida.
Virgin do still have their own Dollar desk.
I took the slip 'across the road' in the airport and someone brought the car round for us.
I took out independant insurance with 'insurance4carhire' (it saved me £250) and was a little afraid they might try to talk me out of it but they just said 'ok' and sent me on my way. They did suggest an upgrade but I had on my 'work head' and they were convinced I knew what I was doing when I said no thank you :rotfl:

The only thing to remember if you want to send another member of the party off to collect luggage whilst you're sorting out the hire car - if you are going to be using more than one driver, they also need to be present at the Dollar/car hire desk too to sign and show their licence.

thats what we do my husband goes to car hire desks downstairs while me and kids get luggage.
then we meet downstairs go get car accross the road.. :cheer2:
cant wait........

When I collected our car on 31-01, I took my licence and my wifes' licence and that was fine. They didn't want to see her or her signature.
