How do you pay in british pounds?

I know this is going to sound like a silly question but how do you pay in British pounds if you are renting a house? I have never rented off site and we are looking to do so in July 2010. Some of the houses that I have looked at said you have to pay in British pounds. How do you do that?

If they are a British owner they will have an American bank account. They need one to pay all their bills in America. Ask them to quote in USA dollars. Some also accept paypal. You can also go to our bank and ask the bank to write you a check in GB pounds.

Hi there - I am from the UK and have rented a house 3 times and paid in$ - I usually do this on my credit card with the house owner - the transaction gets converted from £ to $ & the exchange rate is shown on your statement.

If not - then I would think you would have to make a bank transfer. Some may have a management company that would take a payment in $ if you ask,

As mentioned previously, you can ask if the owner can accept payment in US$.

If they can take credit cards, it will automatically convert your US$ to UKP, but be aware of international transaction fees on your credit card.

Paypal, similar. Can pay by cash (from your bank account) or credit card (if accepted) and will convert funds.

Finally, two other options. Firstly you can ask your bank for a check in foreign funds - i.e UK pounds. They should be able to do this for you, but may take some time and may have a fee associated with it. Another method is an international wire transfer where you ask your bank to wire the funds to the UK. Again, there is a fee to do this, but it is simple and fairly quick. You can tell the bank you want to send, for example, 500 UKP and they will work out the conversion from USD to the UKP.

I paid in Sterling, for a villa this past summer. We used our Amex. They had the cheapest conversion rate/fee.
