How do you pay for things?

I carry very little cash and pay for everything with my debit card unless its a big purchase then I use my GM credit card. I pay it off at the end of the month but it earns me money toward my next GM vehical. I already have almost $1000 towards Suburban number 2. The one I have now is only 2 years old so I figure by the time Im ready for a new one I'll be maxed out on my GM dollars which means I'll have $3500 toward my purchase. WooHooo. Those puppys are expensive! Every little bit helps!

I'm probably about 90% credit card and 9% Debit Card and a very tiny amount cash/checks.

My credit card transactions download into Quicken automatically and I pay the account down to 0 whenever DH or I get a check -- so that is usually 2 to 3 times a month.

Studies show that most people spend more money shopping with credit cards than they do with cash. I have to suspect that I'm the other way however. If I have a couple of twenties in my billfold they can disappear almost instantly without my even thinking about it. I agonize over signing charge slips though.

We pay for everything with a credit card if we can AND we always pay it off in its entirety when it is due!! We only write out checks for paying bills and most of our bills come out of our checking / savings account!!

OH - I do write a check out for DD (4) dancing school!!

Groceries are debit. Incidentals are cash. Bigger purchases and shopping sprees are credit(more Disney VISA points to spend!), vacations are credit.

Genrally with the credit, we pay it off ASAP, and try to keep track of how much is on there and sort of budget for the payment.

Credit Card!! I charge everything, gas, groceries, etc. I earn FF miles. To date, I've taken at least 8 FREE airline trips!! In fact, I have another 2 FREE tickets burning a whole in my "account". I always fly NYC to Minneapolis and have never had a problem booking a trip.

Nothing like a FREE vacation!!!!!

Oh, yes, I pay the balance in full every month. I NEVER carry a balance.

Debit cards - BAD!!!! I slice those things up everytime my bank sends me one. I know to many people who've gotten burned from those puppies!!

Kimberle--we had a bank manager tell us the same thing just recently about the debit cards. We were setting up our son to have one and she said best to get the cc and pay off monthly, which is what he did.

We currently use all methods, however very little cash for the safety reasons and better tracking ability stated. Trying to "park" the debit as the bank advised, but I keep reaching for it for some reason.

I have heard some bad things about debit cards on this thread. hummm. I have never had any problems with mine. In the last ten years I have had 4 different banks (husband in AF we move a lot) currently we have been with Wells Fargo for a little over a year. I have never had any foreign charges or been overdrawn. In ten years I have used debit cards for everything that isn't a major purchase. never any problems. I was just wondering if the reason some of you dont like them is because of charges you didnt make showing up or what? I also carry my check book with me and everytime I make a purchase I write it in my ledger just like you would a check. Can you please shed some light?

Credit card for everything I can....paid in full at the end of the month. It's going to be sending DH and I to Hawaii before too long at no cost to me!
