We usually arrive on Saturday and stay at a non-DVC resort Saturday night - last trip it was Pop Century and before that we stayed at a Hampton Inn. We then check-in early Sunday morning to our DVC resort. One time we checked out on Friday and the other Saturday. Since we just did an add-on, for our trip in March I'm using points for Saturday night.
We are usually there by late Friday or early Sat.(we drive). We stay offsite, or at a Disney Resort with a code, and then check in to a DVC resort, early Sunday morning. Then we stay until the following Sundayso we only use them for one weekend). Someday, I hope to have more points, and be able to not have to move. The exception being a late arrival on Friday, I'll continue to stay somewhere else that first night, because I don't want to chance being stuck with a smoking, bad view, handicapped room for an 8-9 day stay. In Feb., we are staying at AKL for Friday, and Sat. and then checking in to SSR on Sunday. This gives us a chance to try out other resorts, and the kids are really excited about both places.
Absolutely. I didn't spend all that $$$ on DVC to pay cash for my accomodations! We will sometimes use a studio for a weekend night though, either upon arrival or the night before departure.
Right now we use points to stay over weekends, but this June we have Friday, Sunday-Friday on points and are paying cash for the Saturday night.... 99 points is a killer for a 2 bedroom! LOL
When the kids are self sufficient, we will use the AP rate for weekends or stay over at US/IOA.
I voted used points for weekends, since that is what we are doing now.
