Do you pack each child's clothes in one suitcase each or all childrens stuff together?

This is the first "real" trip we all have gone on not counting visiting friends in NJ for a few days. I need to get more luggage since all they have is a small duffel bag each and I don't think I will be wanting to visit the washer/dryer on vacation. :rotfl:

Not sure what kind of luggage (one or two big pieces or 3 medium pieces) I want to get so I thought I would ask all the families that been there done that.

TIA!

Each child has his/her own suitcase, preferably large enough to hold everything and small enough for them to carry or roll. DD12 wouldn't dream of having her little brothers' clothes in with hers'-might get cooties or something!!

Well, two thoughts here....

If you are flying, you are really better off mixing up the clothing in the suitcases until you get to your destination. Then you can divvy it all up. The reason...if the airlines lose a piece of luggage, you'll still have some clothes for that person until you can buy more (or till the luggage is found....usually after you get back home hahaha)

Our clothing "allowance" is half a suitcase per person. If we're driving somewhere, it's really easy that way to unpack.

I use my large suitcase for my five kids's clothes. My husband and I each have a duffle bag for our clothes and miscellanous items. We also bring a garment bag which holds our hanging clothes and shoes.

I've done it both ways. When driving, we frequently use a separate duffle bag for each kid. I also have a large suitcase that stands up and opens like a book (sorta) with two shelves inside. I sometimes combine the two smaller boys in that one so it's easy for them to just take clothes out of the suitcase all week. It doesn't take a lot of space in the room closet.

I've also used the bigger one for miscellaneous stuff. For example, we leave in six hours for WDW :cool1: and I'm using the big one for our box of Disney trading pins, our snacks, our Halloween Disney plush (I'm SOOO hoping that Mousekeeping will do something interesting with them --- the little boys have never stayed on-site and will be amazed if they do), etc. This is just a good way to consolodate all the little stuff so we won't make a lot of trips to the car when unloading and loading up.

I pack everyones clothes in one large suitcase. Yes it is a risk I take but I am single mom and it is easier to carry while pushing a stroller. They each have their backpack w/ items for the plane and I have one also w/ the necessities & one outfit. In all the yaers I have been travel never had my suitcase lost. I didn't just say that leaving in a couple months.

I've done it both ways and found this trip when they each had their own small suitcase with wheels to be the best. Much better than trying to sort through duffle bags. I made little luggage tags with their names on it and packed each outfit in a ziploc baggie with their name on it. Worked like a charm! I didn't unpack at the resort either. I may try to get mine and DH's stuff in the one big suitcase next time, but I will be keeping all the kids stuff separate.

I try to take as few pieces as possible. I have a 6, 3, and 15mos old. So, We usually pack one large suitcase, a small one, stroller, and diaper backpack.
