Here's what I did:
Went to AC Moore (crafts store)
Bought a roll of laminate. This is the kind that does not need any type of applicator or device.
Bought a sheet of magnet (white on one side, black on the other).
Bought double sided tape.
Made up some pictures for magnets and printed them. Some were the types you see here (the white DCLs with our names on them). We're from the Boston area so I made a Red Sox one and pasted on little Mickey's. Did the same for a Patriots one. The Red Sox one was stolen by our NY table mates
Printed the pictures on our color printer.
Cut out the printouts.
Placed the cutout face down on the sticky side of the laminate. Then placed another piece of laminate on top (sticky side down) to make a sandwich of the cutout.
Cut the laminate edges off to match the shape of the cutout.
Applied two-sided tape to the back of the cutout.
Stuck it onto the white side of the magnet paper (pressing hard).
Cut the magnet paper into the shape of the cutout.
Done.
I did this in August and they help up thoughout the cruise and are now on our refridgerator. I wasn't sure how well the two-sided tape would hold up, but it was fine.
The cost was VERY low as the laminate, magnet paper, and the two-sided tape don't cost much. I found it to be a low risk, high reward approach.
