How do you make your "baked" potatoes?

Do you always make yours in the oven? Ever do it in a microwave? Campfire? Grill?

Rub with oil, wrap in foil, bake at whatever temp for at least an hour (or more). Hard to mess them up. Same way over a campfire. I'll do them in a microwave, naked and forked, for about six minutes if I'm I a hurry but I don't think they're as good.

Do you have to pierce them with a fork/knife?

I admit that I've never baked them in the oven. ***hangs my head in shame*** :worried:

I've always put a few "pierce" marks in them with a knife and throw them in the microwave for about 7 minutes, turn them over and put on for another 7-8 minutes (depending on the size).

We were given a bake potato microwave bag a few years ago and making it in that bag I think they taste just as good as in the oven and it comes out quicker... so now we usually "bake" in the microwave.

I rub them in butter and then coat them in coarse salt and bake them in the oven, directly on the oven rack (with a pan set lower to catch the drips). I don;t poke them first--they are less fluffy if you do.

Forked and in the oven; forked, wrapped in foil and on the grill or campfire. Both take about an hour. Wouldn't ever consider a microwave.

Rub with butter, wrap in foil, and bake in the oven. On rareoccasion I put them in the microwave, I poke holes in it with a fork, put on a small plate, put a tbsp or two of water on the plate, cover the plate with saran wrap.

I put them in the microwave for 3-4 minutes.

Then remove from microwave and put in the oven for 45 minutes to an hour

Good stuff

Almost the same for me too. Pierce with a fork, 4 mins. in the microwave remove and wrap in foil. Then pop them in the oven for about 45 mins. more or less depending on the size.

I bake in the oven then slice a thin strip off the side. Scoop out the potato meat into a bowl, mix with butter, sour cream, cheddar cheese and green onions. Refill the shells with this blend then back in the oven to warm it all up again. Delicious!

I set my oven to about 450 degrees. I wash the potatoes, wrap in foil, pierce with fork, and bake for about an hour, sometimes longer. Like another poster, I like them really creamy.

I should try oiling or buttering the skins but I don't eat the skins so, I figure, why bother. I used to love the skins but I've heard that if you don't buy organic potatoes, the skins hold a lot of pesticides.

My sister has a microwave potato bag. I want one because I thought they tasted great at her house!

I was told several years ago to wash the potatoes, stick a knife all the way through, wrap them in plastic wrap and bake them in the microwave. They come out great. I hate heating the oven for an hour just for a couple potatoes.

I bake two med. large ones about 8-10 min. I test them by taking a pot holder or towel and squeezing them gently. You want them to have a little give, but not be mushy. Too long cooking is not good. They are delicious this way, and taste just as good as doing them in the oven.

I usually just poke them and throw them in the oven because that's all I have time for, but when I really want to do it right I wrap them with foil and butter them with course salt and garlic. If I really want to "hurry it along" I microwave them for about 8 to 10 mins and bake for about half an hour

I usually microwave them just because we're usually in a hurry to eat.

It depends on how much time I have. If I have less time, I'll microwave them for about 4 or 5 minutes, then bake in the toaster oven or regular oven for 20-30 minutes. If I have more time, I bake in the oven, no foil, as that makes the skin soggy. And if we're grilling, then I grill for about an hour.
