I just got an electric kettle for Mother's Day and was wondering how to make iced tea with it. I don't think I should put the tea bags in the pot because then it would be tea-stained if I want to boil water for soup right?? Would I boil the water and then transfer it to a pitcher to brew the tea? I only have a plastic gallon pitcher but I don't like the idea of putting hot boiling water in plastic. thanks for any advice.

I put my teabags in a pitcher (which is plastic), then I add the boiling water to let it steep/brew.

OP, electric kettles are a way of life in my area! Please don't even think of putting teabags (or anything else other than water) into your kettle--all you will get is a nasty mess and a cleaning problem.
You can boil the water in the kettle, and transfer the boiling water to a scalded teapot containing a few teabags. Let the entire business steep for no more than 5 min. (otherwise you get really strong tannin in the tea), fish out the teabags, and transfer the hot tea to your plastic jug--if you are worried about melting the plastic--pour a couple of cups of room temp. water into the jug first.

Please don’t put the teabags in the kettle, it will damage the kettle, the taste isn’t very well. I usually transfer the boiling water to a teapot with teabags and let it brew.

I will have to get a teapot. Thanks everyone for your advice :)

DH says I should just do it the old way before I had the electric kettle....Boil a large pot of water in a stainless steel pot then brew it, cool it and transfer to the plastic gallon pitcher LOL

ITA with Gigi. I don't know what I would do without my electric kettle and teapot. They work as a team for making my iced tea brew all summer. There are some really pretty teapots out there and you might find a beautiful used one at Goodwill or other thrift store.

Have you tried Lipton Cold Brew tea. I drink a lot if tea and this is so much easier to do. I don't taste a difference in this and when I use to brew tea.
