how does every one like to travel to the port from home?

I prefer to fly into MCO, rent a car at the airport and drive to the port area the night before our cruise.

We drive our own car & get in the day before. Get to the dock around 10:30 and check in.

You mean there is another Louisville cruise freak here??? I'm so bad that my travel agent says "Again? Same preferences?" and just pulls up my file.

We prefer to drive and do a couple park days before the cruise.

yes im a derby city DCL cruise freak. we love disney and when we found out disney had there own ships we had to go

We are sooooo bad....our 10th sailing on the Magic is booked in February. It is truly the best vacation! We had 2 other cruise experienced before DCL existed, but by comparison, I won't even consider another cruise line now! The only thing better than a 7 day DCL cruise is a 7 day cruise plus some park days! Well, maybe the 10 day cruise next December.....

We always drive our own car -- that way we are there as early as we want to be!

There is more than 2 Louisville cruise freaks. We are in Fairdale and just got back from our 11 day trip.

We asked daughter to book a taxi to PC from our hotel: and a beautiful white Limo appeared - a wonderful surprise, courtesy of daughter! Felt like a King and Queen, but as we stepped out at the cruise terminal - other guests were disappointed to see two weary, casually dressed Brits! Think they expected someone a little more "regal"!!! Just the BEST way to travel: especially if someone else is paying the bill!Nat:Pinkbounc

taking your own car is the best in my opinion. but everyone is different. thanks for all the great information DISers keep it up

We have driven from Louisville in the past, but considering flight down a day or two before, and taking DCL coach to PC for the '04 western.

Driving our own car is virtually out of the question for us. It would take about 4 -5 days, one way!

We fly to MCO and use a towncar service...

We have done all three.
First trip we flew in for a land/sea trip and rented a car.
Second trip we drove from Iowa and arrived in Orlando a couple of days before the cruise and went to Epcot.
Last minute anniversary cruise flew in the same day of the cruise and took a limo over to the port and then rented a car for a half the day before our late afternoon flight.

My favorite would be picking one from each trip we have taken.
Would much rather fly then drive.
Love arriving a few days before the cruise so we can hit the parks.
Nothing tops a LIMO ride to the port.

We can't figure out how come when we drove ourselves to the port it seemed like it took FOREVER but when we took the LIMO it seemed like it only took 15 minutes. We didn't even get to finish the wine.

We have always combined WDW and DCL and done three different things:

(1)The first time, we flew in the night before and stayed near the airport. We took the DCL busses bright and early and it was just fine. We'd do that again if we did DCL first. Post-cruise, we took DCL busses to our WDW Resort. No problems whatsoever.

(2)The second time, we stayed 2 nights at WDW and took DCL busses from the World. I would never do that again as we got to Port way too late -- it was about 1:30/2:00 by the time we got there. Since our bus wasn't full at the Swan, they swung through AK to pick up park-going cruisers. We missed embarkation lunch and all. I will never take DCL transport from WDW again. I like to get to Port early.

(3)This time Mom and I are staying at BWV for two nights prior to our 4-day Wonder and I rented a town car from Happy Limo. There was no way I was going to get to Port so late again. I will have to report back after this trip to tell you what I thought of this transportation.

I'm from Louisville, too. We have a timeshare in Orlando so we always drive down (it gets expensive for a family of 4 to fly). Summer of 2004 we hope to spend a week at the condo then do a DCL 7-day western cruise. Summer 0f 2002 we did 4 or 5 days at the condo then a four day Wonder cruise.

We rented a car from Budget 12/4 from the airport and dropped it at the site just a mile from the port (free shuttle). Cost less than purchasing 4 seats on DCL shuttle or Limo.
