My DH and I are thinking of going to Cedarpoint for a quick trip on our anniversary this month. It will be about 6 hours for us to get there. Not too far, but still quite a hike. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has been there and if it is worth it. Also if we should go, can we do it all in a day, or do we need 2 days?

I want to do something fun, (it would be nice if it was romantic too :lovestruc but not necessary--we can create romance anywhere  )

Anyway, what do you recommend? Also what days of the week are the best time to visit?

Also, do you have any other suggestions of what to do? I guess I'm out of ideas.

We live in Milwaukee, and anything within a 6 hour radius is fair game. We'd like something that we can spend at least a night over. :goodvibes

If you are an amusement park person and LOVE coasters then this is the place.

At the same time the Hotel Breakers was nice but expensive. It is right on the Lake Erie and really cool.

It took us 2 days.

Congratulations!

We did Riddle-Con there last year, about 60 DIS folks, had a blast. Check the link in my signature for some pictures. I would do it, great park.

Cedar Point is the BEST coaster park in the USA!!! It puts WDW,IOA,Six Flags, etc to shame when it comes to coasters.

It is also very clean and well run, even the parking lot is very well organized.

We live just 25 mins from Cedar Point however I have stayed there 3 times now. If you don't mind spending $200, stay at the Sandcastle Suites and get a lake view. It is GORGEOUS and watching a lake freighter cruise by on your private balcony is pretty cool. Sandcastle is more secluded, by CP standards, than the Hotel Breakers. However I stayed at the HB just this week and loved it too.

As for romance, you can walk the beach and the path that goes along it. The park is a fun place even if you don't want all the thrills.

For a first timer, I'd say 2 days in the parks would be best.

Enjoy.......and if you have any more questions, feel free to pm me.

Since you are already in WI how about Door County? That is a very nice place to visit. We loved biking at the state Park. We liked CP as well but Door would be more romantic.

I just had to chime in... It was funny to see Cedar Point mentioned on here! I went there a few times growing up (lived in Kalamazoo, Michigan). If you love roller coasters, it is the place to be that's for sure! My first real coaster was the Magnum there, a BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG drop. So intense!!! I think it would be a great place to go for an anniversary, have fun! :)

BC (before children) DH and I went to Cedar Point also for our anniversary. Its a great park and we can't wait until the kids are a little older so we can go back. For our anniversary, we also did an overnight stay at Put In Bay. It was real nice! Not sure where that is in comparison to you, since we come from the other way. Have Fun!

A group of DISers are heading to CP on Memorial Day weekend for our annual get together. If your plans bring you there on Friday or Saturday, let me know and we'll keep an eye out for you.

If you like roller coasters, Cedar Point is most definitely the park for you. Since you are coming early in the season, some of the live shows won't be in place. Not to worry. There are still lots of things to see and do in the park.

We have never stayed at the Sandcastle Suites, but we have stayed at the Hotel Breakers. It's handy to be able to walk to/from the park. And if you stay in a CP hotel, you get early entry into the park.

Have you checked out their website?

What is "Put in Bay"? I've never heard of that. If we do go on Memorial Day weekend, I'll let you know. I've never seen a real live DISer before (except in the mirror).:hyper:

We make an annual trip each summer to CP and stay the weekend at Hotel Breakers. It's great to be able to walk to the hotel for an afternoon break. DD takes a friend and we all have a blast.

Last year we got a suite with a balcony and a beautiful view of the lake. It would be pretty romantic, I'm guessing, unless you have 2 13 year old girls with you!

If you do go, even in the middle of summer, bring warm clothes. It can get VERY chilly with the wind off the lake after dark.

Have a great time!

Put-in-bay is an island in Lake Erie off of Catawba which you take a ferry over to. It has shops, bars and other attractions which you can, for the most part, walk to everything.

My suggestion? Since you're doing this for your anniversary, if you're going to go to cedar point, stay here: Georgian Manor It's a gorgeous B&B that DW and I stayed at one time for our anniversary. It's a short (maybe 5-10 minutes) drive to CP from there and it would have a little more romance than the hotels near CP. :)

Cedar Point brings back such fond memories to me. We used to go there every year- a 2 hour ride down the Sandusky Turnpike from Metro Detroit. I remember going when it was free (or reduced fee) admission for those who didn't want to ride, and if you paid the "all ride" fee, you got a string with a clip on it around your wrist. In fact, that was back when Lake Erie was polluted, and you couldn't go in the water.. My mom and my friends mom took us there every summer, what great sports...

I haven't been there in over 20 years, and I am anxiously awaiting DS6 and DS4 to grow up and appreciate roller coasters so we can go have the bajeebers scared out of us again. Thanks for stirring up old, wonderful memories.

Is Cedarpoint Downs still running?? That was always a (albeit, corny) favorite of mine..:flower3:

I too got a nostalgic feeling when I saw Cedar Point posted on here. Having grown up in western PA, Cedar Point was the location of MANY family vacations, school trips, and my senior high school trip. It is a GREAT place if you like wild rides, wet rides, and even a little beach romance. Actually, I am not a big thrill seeker and I love the place! Have a great time and tell my childhood memories I said hi ;)
