How do you leave the room when checking out

I don't see any gray areas, it's all just personal choice. What are we required to do: Absolutely nothing.

My DW will really tidy up the room the morning of TnT day. Why ? She doesn't want housekeeping to think we're slobs. Maybe that's why some people go all out on check out day and others do very little.
Exactly! I don't want to be considered unhelpful by Housekeeping and would be happy to oblige by fulfilling simple requests like leaving the dishes in / out of the dishwasher if that's what would help, but neither do I want to do any more than I need to on vacation ;).

Yesterday as we were getting in the car to the airport....I placed a six pack of soda and another of water on the bellman's counter and asked if they could use it. He gladly accepted it. Don't know if that's the norm.....it was just such a hot day and I was going to throw them away.

For those of you who have stayed at (or own) other timeshare properties (e.g. Westgate), you'll notice the letter they leave on the kitchen counter giving you the "rules" of staying. Like it's not enough to pay for the membership and dues, too!

These "rules" include: sweep, load all dirty dishes in the dishwasher and run it, throw out all trash, strip beds and leave all linens/towels in bathroom, etc. If these things are not done, they mention they will charge the owners/members extra!!

You'll then notice Disney: Welcome home! No rules, just relax! Given the huge difference in dues between Disney and other timeshare properties, I'll gladly just relax! It's one of the reasons I LOVE DISNEY!!!

For those who disagree, we do at least load the dishwasher and throw the trash out.

We strip the beds and put all towels in the tub. I put dishes in the dishwasher, but don't run it, because they have to do that anyway. I throw out any food, but will sometimes look for a guest who appears to be arriving to give unopened treats to. I especially do this if it is frozen like ice cream etc.

We leave the beds messy but thoroughly searched for clothing/toys/shoes (ya know...kids....things get lost in the bed)...not really stripped, but they'd have to be sure to change the sheets. Towels in the tub. Dirty dishes in the dishwasher. Trash in the receptacles. We don't vacuum before we leave...but we don't leave it horrible either. We generally end up vacuuming every other day or so during our stay anyway. We don't leave things laying around, furniture moved to odd places, or anything like that.

Unopened food I've left for housekeeping and usually try to let them know they're welcome to it. Mainly stuff that doesn't make good car food....since we drive. I'll have to keep bell services in mind as well.

Oh, and another way we leave the room when checking out....reminding ourselves that we'll be back soon!

We don't seem to do as much as many of you. We leave the beds unmade, I never thought of stripping them. I run the dishwasher the night before and in the morning put all the dishes away. I wash any dishes that were used on check out day and return them to the closet. I leave all used towels in one bathroom. I just make sure the place is left neat. I empty the fridge and leave unopened items for mousekeeping. We also leave a nice tip.

I leave the beds unmade, although I do not strip them. I run a load in the dishwasher. I throw all dirty towels in the tub. If there is a lot of crumbs etc on the floor, I run the vacuum. I bag up the garbage. I wipe the kitchen and bathroom counters.

We try to leave our room as neat as we can....

do not run vacuum---they vacuum and steam clean the carpets between each guest--we know this b/c our carpets were still moist from the steaming when we arrived!!!:) so don't knock yourself out running the vacuum.....

we left all unopened food on a clean counter with a note and a tip---hope they didn't throw it away....

all towels in a big pile on floor of bathroom

we load--but don't run dishwasher...they are required to run everything through again anyway......even the coffee pot....

simple, courteous, but not overdone!! They do SUCH a fabulous job at mousekeeping---don't you just LOVE the way the rooms feel when you first arrive??!!!! There is nothing like Disney!!!:)

We like to leave the room exactly the way we found it. We strip the beds completely and wash and dry the sheets, blankets, mattress pads and make the beds back up.

We also wash and dry the towels and refold them exactly the way mousekeeping does, with washcloths in little fans and hand towels making little pockets for the washcloths in folded into little fans. We never touch the soap or shampoo so that we can put it exactly back where we found it.

We run the vaccuum and then steam clean the carpets. Mousekeeping is great about lending you a steam cleaner if you ask. The steamcleaner also works well on the furniture.

We do a full scrubbing of the kitchen, including washing all of the dishes and putting them back in the cabinet, scrubbing out the oven and microwave, taking apart the rangetop of the stove to get any crumbs that some less-conscientious dvc'ers might have let get below the burners and polish the sink and faucets. If there are any scuffs in the corian counters, we take them out with some 220 grit sandpaper we bring with us just in case. I don't like staying in BCV because I hate bringing a bottle of granite sealer with me.

Sometimes if I have a little extra time when I am done with all of this by around 6am (as conscientious DVC members, we NEVER leave after 7am so as to give mousekeeping enough time to clean oru room) I like to do a little bit of furniture refinishing. With all of those non-members who use the units, they sometimes get a little scratched up.

Of course we ALWAYS leave mousekeeping a $100 tip ($200 if we are in a 2 bedroom).

While I wouldn't run the vacuum, I don't know about them steam cleaning between guests (you may have gotten lucky)....I seem to recall someone once posted here they found a candy bar ground into the carpet.
