when we check out of our 2 bdr at OKW we made the beds and cleaned out the sink and emptied the fridge. I left the sugar we sued for coffee for the next person and the freezer packs in the freezer, but I assume it was thrown out.

What do you do?

I guess "depressed" isn't the answer you were looking for.

DW will semi make the bed. Rinse out any cups,etc and leave them in the sink. Any unused coffee setups are left on the counter. Fridge is empty,ice trays full.

I load the dishwasher, if it's full I run it, I wipe down the kitchen counter, I take the sheets off of the bed and leave them in a pile along with all of the used towels. I throw out all of the perishables and opened bags of chips, etc, but I leave anything unopened. If housekeeping wants it, they are welcome to it. I leave the sofa bed open, if we used it, without sheets so they can make it up again.

We usually empty our trash, make sure all the dishes are clean and put away. We never make the bed, they have to come in a strip it anyway, so why bother? Plus, we want to make sure that they are changing the sheets especially on the sofa bed. We keep it pulled out for them. I've been know the run the vaccum, that was probably more on our first couple of trips home. We also throw all of the towels into the bathtub. Learned that from staying in the hotels. It seems like its easier for the housekeeper to get everything together if its all in one place.

We left our rooms as much like we found them as possible. We did leave a tip for housekeeping, but had trouble deciding what was appropriate for "trash and towel service" only. My question regards appropriate amount to leave as a gratuity. We took into account the fact that the room had to be prepared for our stay. What do you leave for housekeeping when (if?) you only use "trash and towels"?

KNWVIKING....good point about the depressed part! :p

I was making the bed on our last trip and DW told me not to......since mousekeeping had to change all the sheets anyway, I'd actually be making it harder for them.

I know some people strip the bedding and leave it in a bundle.

We just make sure our stuff is out of there and pretty much let housekeeping do their thing.

We don't leave anything in the unit that wasn't supplied by Disney, because we've been told that it all gets pitched. There is no such thing as leaving something you've brought for the next group.

We strip the beds and leave used towels in the bathtub. We run the dishwasher and throw out all opened food. We take the recycling and garbage to the appropriate room. We dispose of opened food, but anything unopened we leave behind because a CM once told us that anything unopened is donated to Forgotten Harvest.

I am starting to get excited...look at my countdown clock!!!!

Take out the trash & recyleables (which we do this just about every time we walk out of the unit);

Either wash all the dishes or load the dishwasher & run it;

Gather all used towels including the kitchen towel & leave them in a pile near the tub;

Strip the linens off the bed & the pillows & leave near the used towels; if we used the sofa bed, then we leave it open so there is no doubt that it was used;

If we leave unopened food, I usually try to find our housekeeper & let her know; last trip we were leaving early (6-7 a.m.), so I gave things to the front desk & bellman.

We figure any or all of the above is the least we can do to help housekeeping.

I have been told different things on unopened food. This trip, I asked the bellman if they had a break room for it. He was greatful fr the 2 2 ltr. bottles of soda and bag of pretzels (all unopened).

I didn't want to risk it going in the garbage.

Strip the bed and pile the sheets, throw dirty towels in the tub, take out the trash, clean, dry and return the glasses to the cabinet. (we've only used a studio so far)

Open food gets tossed, unopened food we leave for whomever would like it.

I do think the food gets "recycled". On our last trip, I noticed two mousekeepers that appeared to be leaving for the day. They each had two plastic bags that looked full. One of the benefits of working there, I guess. Diana

I am so happy to see that I have been doing what many of you have been doing! Every time we go "Home" someone asks" how are we supposed to leave this place?".

I know we leave it as clean as we can and strip the beds and leave towels in a pile in the bathroom. We are usually driving, so we can take many of the food items. We have left some, but I have also offered unopened food to other families who may be sitting by the pool the day we leave. I like the idea of giving unopened items to the bellmen or other staff. Then we leave throught the door.

One thing re: running the dishwasher, someone on these boards once reminded that it was not a good idea to leave the dishwasher or any appliance running while you are not present. I know this from experience as 2 people I know have had terrible fires start in their homes-one from a clothes dryer, that did not spin, and the other a dishwasher. Unfortunately, 2 people died in the dishwasher fire. They put on the dishwasher an went to bed. So let's be careful in our home away from home.

IMO washing the dishes before you leave is a waste of time. Mousekeeping has to assume they are dirty regardless of the condition you left them in.

In tears! :(

We don't leave it trashed. Hopefully most don't. It only makes it harder for housekeeping to get the rooms done for the next guests! It's also easier to make sure you don't forget something if you just tidy up. ;)

We clean up most of the place; load the dishwasher, clean the counters, vacuum, clean the bathroom. The only thing we didn't do is make the bed. Even when we had maid service, we had the place cleaned up. I wanted to leave it the way we got it.

I leave the bed unmade (has to be stripped anyway) and throw all of the dirty towels in the tub or one large pile on the bathroom floor. If a studio, I put the dishes in the sink otherwise in the dish washer. I don't run it in case housekeeping finds something else to put in there. We take our trash out with us. Lastly, we call the special number to let them know we have vacated the room (unless housekeeping is waiting right outside the door). This may help someone get there room before 4pm.

I guess I can't disagree with their logic on that one Granny; it's just too bad.

We inevitably have two or three sealed and unopened bottles of soda when we are leaving.

I've always left them, hoping that the maids would take them.

We always load the dishwasher, I don't run it because of varying reports on whether they have to rerun them or not. Clean out the fridge, take out the garbage. Leave towels in the tub. I left a half empty liter of ginger ale in the fridge last time thinking the housekeeper may want a drink.
