How do you know what rooms to request?

I've been glued to this board for the past couple of days b/c we are VERY close to finally taking the plunge and buying into DVC. So exciting! I can't wait for my first "real" welcome home!

Anyway, I notice that many of you have "favorite" rooms or request certain rooms, etc. How do you know...just by staying in that room before? Obviously, I want to choose a room that is either close to the pool, or has the view I want...whatever I happen to be looking for. So, how do I find this out if I have never stayed at a certain resort before? Is there a thread somewhere? Is it on Deb's site?

Requests are never a guarantee, so please do not let all the discussions lead you to a disappointment if you don't get what you want.

You did not say which resort you are interested in. There are maps here and when you get your official materials you will have a guidebook with maps in it.

I would simply go with simple requests never a particular rooms as that is very hard to get. Something like you mentioned, near the pool, etc.

We always make one request at OKW...Non smoking for medical reasons. Beyond that, we take what we get. We used to request a specific area, but then decided maybe we were missing out on some other great places to be in the resort. The past 6-7 trips, we have just left it up to chance, and every room has been great in some way or another. If you are staying in a resort with 500-700 units, you don't want to get too specific.
