How Do you know what is eligible as a snack credit?

I'm going to Disney World in September and I'm on the free dining plan. I know there are websites, including this one that tells you what qualifies under the snack credit on the dining plan.

I'm wondering if the actual counter services have something displayed that tell you if something is snack credit eligible without having to ask the workers?

If there isn't anything, is there a general rule of thumb? Such as desserts, sides, appetizers, etc?

If there was any signange, I never saw it. I always asked a worker, and heard others doing the same.

In general, it is bottled drinks, desserts, or obvious things like chips and popcorn.

Not sure when PP was there or how it was missed :confused3

But I would see a "DDP" symbol on almost all menu boards next to items that counted and at our resort CS place, there would be a "DDP" symbol next to the price tag. (This was in 2009 and 2011).

For sure it's just easiest to ask the CM. But I know I've seen photos on some thread that showed menu signs.(I think it was over on easy wdw) There is a snack 'logo' beside items which qualify as a snack on the dining plans. I believe it's a purple and white square that has ddp in teeny tiny little letters.

Most eligible snacks will have:

Next to them on the menus, or the name card, or somewhere (all dependent on how it's displayed).* Alternatively, asking the CM also works (as there may also be unlabeled items)

Here's a photo of a menu board I got from eatingwdw. All of the items regarded as snacks have the above-mentioned DDP logo.

If you want to prepare your snacking strategy from home, there's a great and helpful list (though perhaps not complete) of confirmed snack credits on the DDP sub board of this board. It's a sticky thread at the top of the page.

Here's a link: Confirmed Snacks for 2012

Oh wow...that's very helpful...and thanks for reminding me that most non alchoholic beverages are included.

I am a planner, but I didn't necessarily want to plan on out places to get my snacks; though I have been told the dole whip ice cream bar is not to be missed :thumbsup2

I am glad the signs make it easy to identify snacks. I could ask a CM, but didn't want to hold up the line or possibly waste time if something on their menu didn't end up being a snack item.

You gave good pointers though. Thanks everyone! I bet others find this helpful too :-)

I went over to easywdw and what I found interesting is some of the menus didn't have snack symbols next to them. Some of the obvious I was looking for were sodas. I noticed the ones with snack symbols were approx $4.00 or less. So maybe not everything is eligible, but I would think any soda or bottle of water would be eligible, right?

I saw a menu with funnel cake was over $6.00 and didn't show the snack symbol.

so that gives me some idea too :thumbsup2

edited to add: thanks for the tip on the snack sticky thread

I believe the regular funnel cake is included but not the ones with fruit topping.

I didn't get a chance to pop back in until now...thanks for you help and your responses :thumbsup2 I'm getting hungry just thinking about it

Thanks for the info everyone. Is a plan really worth the money as I have never used one before?

It is not true that everything is eligible even at or above a certain price point. Take the funnel cakes for instance. At the stand at Epcot's America pavilion, you cannot use a snack credit to get a funnel cake at all. At MK's Sleepy Hollow, you can get a funnel cake, but not one with fruit topping. Some specialty cupcakes are eligible and some are not.

This is always a tricky question to answer.

Typically, if the following is true, then it may be a good value (these apply to all 3 levels of the primary plans):
  • You're planning on eating the way the plan is designed
  • You're willing to order from the higher end of the menus (top half or so)
  • You're not planning on sharing
  • You're aiming for the higher end restaurants (again, top half or so)
  • You have a larger, mixed group that may benefit from up-front pricing (subjective)

There's quite a bit more to it than that really, but if those are the case, then doing the math out on where you think you'll go and what you think you'll order can really help determine if it will likely be a value or not.

TDC Nala is right-not all funnel cakes are a SC. I keep waiting to hear the ones in EPCOT are on the plan, especially since so many places/items have been added to the SC since they reduced the SC on the QSDP to 1.

I'm glad my thread has been helpful-Happy Snacking!:goodvibes

Apparently the funnel cake stand at Epcot is not operated by Disney and is one of the last third party holdouts for dining plan acceptance.
