How do you know that you're being ignored?

Just skimming the "Ignore List" thread-someone asked if you'd be aware that you're being "ignored" and then that question was never answered-

do you receive a formal e-mail or is a standard PM issued?

Can you make amends-a PM or a public apology on the boards-to the ignorer?

Judging from the delightfully ironic character of the CB I think I may have just doomed this post to the fate of being -:( :p

"IGNORED"

Good night!

I have been told that the person that is ignored does not know that he/she is on your ignore list.

I don't think you get notified in any way if you are put onto someone's ignore list. Sometimes I think the "ignoree" can figure it out, if you never respond to any post they make, no matter how inflammtory it may be.

No email nor any other notification is sent to a poster who is on another's ignore list, neither from that person nor the DIS in general. If a PM is sent to a person by a poster who is on that person's ignore list, the PM is not received, and no indication is given to the sender that it was not received. It would be impolite and hurtful to announce publicly that you had some person on your ignore list. Proper is to just place the poster on ignore, and then ignore, completely. Making references of, inferences to or replies to, a poster you ignore makes little or no sense.

I said:

I meant that if you yourself-the ignorED in this case-sense that you are being ignored , would you try to make amends TO the ignorer-apologize to them-not for the ignorER to publicly parade their dislike-certainly not! But even that part was just said in jest-(the public apology part, I mean!)

At any rate-it was all in the interest of DIS research...no offense intended at all! :)

(I actually thought this post would just get lost in the night shuffle-)

If I knew that soemthing I had posted was offensive or inflammtory enough to offend someone, I would try to apologize, because my overall aim here isn't to offend anyone. I do have strong opinions (shocking, I know;) ) and can tend to get carried away. And generally, most of us DISers know when we've crossed the line, and you'll often see an apologetic thread later in the post stating that.

Personally, I think if someone offended me once, I would probably not put them on ignore. I'd probably be ticked for a little bit and then get over it! I personally use the ignore feature for those people who continually try to bait, offend, and hijack threads, but are protected by their right to "free speech". I tend to use ignore for patterns of what I consider to be offensive or inappropriate posting(and please notice that I said "I" and make no judgements for anyone else), not isolated incidents.

I have no idea if I am ignored or not.......Dan, are you Ignoring Me?!;)

To be honest I am not thrilled about the feature. I think that it causes alot of hard feeling on both sides, especially when some parties enjoy making the other know they are being ignored. That happens on the DIS. Sometimes people will even bring it up. To be honest, I think we are all mature enough that if we see a post we do not like, or a post by someone we know gets us upset, then we would just ignore it, but that just does not happen. Sad, in my opinion.
