How do you know if something from Ebay is legitimate?

I've always wanted a Burberry scarve. They retail for $250. On ebay, they sell for about $15. These are all from Germany and are new, but how do I know they are the real things and not just knockoffs?

Trust me on this, if they are only $15, they are not real. If a deal seems too good to be true, it is. I just bought a Burberry scarf from the Burberry outlet, 50/50 blend, and it was $99. The $225 ones are 100% cashmere.

Now, scarves aside...
The biggest thing to look for is the sellers rating.
If they have sold a high number of items with a good 90+ percent rating, that is a good sign.

As far as the knock-offs go. I am not one to flaunt names and insignias.. If I like something, and it is almost as nice as the known brand, chances are I would be happy to save a lot of $$$.

Some folks HAVE to know for sure that they own the real thing. So, that is just up to your preference!

::yes::

Same goes for all those "genuine" designer purses (LV, Gucci, Coach, etc).
If you really want to know, go ahead and buy one and take it to the real store. They'll tell you it's not real and explain why.

You can't get something for nothing.

The fact that you're posting on here asking the question is your own best answer: it's a fake.

If you're into knockoffs, that's cool, but most people can spot them a mile away. I always snort at the people showing off their "kate spade" bags.

Yeah, those loose threads and fraying leather are really indicative of her bags. Not!

I'm not being a snob, here, I have a Liz Clairborne bag that I got for around 40 bucks on clearance and I love it, but people who *pretend*, well, ugh, who are they trying to impress???

Yeah, they're impressing me, in all the wrong ways!

You need way higher than a 90+ rating! I won't buy from people with less than a 99 rating. The one time I did, I bought from a guy with a 98 rating and wound up with a used, broken coffeepot when I had bid and won on what he described as NIB.

Stick with the 99-100 percenters.

!

I guess I should be careful not to accidently get a knock off purse! If I saw a cheap purse I liked, I wouldn't have a clue whose design it was supposed to look like. Kate who? Liz who? It wouldn't even occur to me to be trying to pretend anything or trying to impress anyone. I'd bet most of the people who buy knock offs are the same. See cute purse - buy it.

People who care about the name are probably willing to pay for it and don't want the knock offs.

Mmm, well, Liz Clairborne is too cheap in the first place to have knockoffs made of it :rotfl: but the knockoffs usually have the fake tags on it saying 'kate spade' etc.

Everyone I've ever met who had a knockoff was quick to point out, "hey, look at my new kate spade bag" or "check out my gucci." I'm like, um, ok.

I bought a Prada purse in St. Maarten for $18. I was all excited until DBF said, "You saw that sign that said they were look-a-likes, right?" Ummm, no. When I pull the zipper, the tail of it flips out of the bag, but that's okay....it's still cute and it was only $18.

I agree on the feedback, I will not buy from anyone with less than 98%.

As for the authenticity of the scarf, at that price it will be a "knock off" but if it looks just like one-buy it--who's going to know otherwise!
I just bought a Juicy Couture hoodie off eBay for my son's girlfriend--the prices seemed too good to be true so I went and researched the high end stores like Neiman Marcus, etc. to see what exactly makes the cheap ones different. There were subtle differences in the zipper pull, or the rabbit fur but the one thing was a heart which is embroidered just above the waistband on the "real" Juicy hoodie. The cheap ones didn't have it, although they had authentic tags, great feedback, etc.
I bought one for $150(seller guaranteed its real and they have great feedback but I still think its too good of a deal to be the REAL deal...who knows maybe I got a great price :teeth: )--it still may not be the "real" deal but who's going to know because it has all of the subtle things that a real Juicy couture has.
So my point is----unless you tell, who's really gonna know the difference? ;)
P.S. Every seller will "swear" there item is authentic--that's where a little research pays off!

Mine too! Also great for clothes 3 sizes too big, even though she always asks my size! :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I agree with all the other posters. Especially on Ebay with designer items. good rating or not...if its cheap, its fake.
there is no way a $1200 Louis Vuitton bag is $200...fake fake. same as your scarf...but if you don't care...go for it. but for $15 the material may not be that nice. ;)

.

That's a little harsh. I think she was making a point that if she sees something that she likes she buys it and doesn't concern herself with who collects the royalties.

Exactly, I assumed since she was dropping names of a designers - she thought they were something special. I could care less who designs what and don't give a hoot if people think it's funny I don't. I buy if I like it and think it's worth what I'm asked to pay I don't care who did or didn't design it. I think it's funny that there are people out there who would be laughing at me if I happened to choose a knock off and assuming I bought it in a poor attempt to impress them!

Honey, it wasn't harsh because I HAVE a Liz Clairborne bag. If she had one and I was picking on her for it, then yeah, but I was saying that LC's aren't a high end brand in the first place, so nobody would knock it off.

There are certain labels that I just won't purchase from Ebay, because the majority of items listed under those labels on Ebay appear to be fake. 20/20 just did a segment on this w/in the past couple of weeks. Some ridiculously high % of "Tiffany" Ebay auctions are selling fake stuff according to that story.
